Styling an outdoor space well starts with getting the foundation right.
The first thing to think about is your anchor piece. In most spaces, that will be the sofa, lounge setting or dining table. It is the piece that sets the tone for everything else, so it needs to feel right in the space, suit the way you live, and be strong enough to build the rest of the design around.
From there, scale matters more than people realise. Oversized furniture in a smaller area can make the space feel crowded, while pieces that are too small in a larger area can leave the whole setting feeling unfinished. UV damage is one of the biggest threats to outdoor furniture in Australia, but it is also one of the easiest things to underestimate.
At first, the damage is not always obvious. The colour starts to soften. Fabric that once looked fresh begins to fade. Plastics and cheaper components can become brittle. Frame finishes can start to chalk, peel or discolour after a few seasons in the sun.
By the time you notice it, the damage has usually already been done.
That is why UV protection cannot be treated as something you fix later with a spray or an aftercare product. It needs to be built into the furniture from the beginning, through the materials, the finishes, the fabric and the components chosen before the piece ever leaves the factory.
For us, long-term UV performance is not a bonus feature.
It is one of the first things we look at.

Think about what you have spent on outdoor furniture over the last five years.
Now think about what that furniture looks like today.
For a lot of people, outdoor furniture has become something they replace more often than they should have to. A setting lasts two summers. Cushions fade before the frame gives way. A table starts to deteriorate, so another piece is bought to get through the next season.
