🎉 Congratulations to the Djungan People! 🎉



On Friday, 31st July 2026, the Djungan People gathered at Kondaparinga Station to celebrate its reopening and their recent Native Title determination. It was a fantastic day on Djungan Country, marking significant milestones and bringing the community together in celebration 🌿

A heartfelt thank you to Nguddaboolgan Native Title Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC and the Kuku Djungan Murtiki Rangers for hosting such a wonderful celebration 🤝

A special mention to the Yoolboonboo Dancers and the Yarrabah Dancers, whose performances made the occasion even more memorable and added to the spirit of the day ✨

Last night, Shaquille had the opportunity to meet with Senator Lidia Thorpe while she was in Gimuy (Cairns) for the Racism Inquiry. 🤝

They had great yarns about economic development for Prescribed Body Corporates (PBCs) and Common Law Holders, and how NQLC's work intersects with the issues being explored through the Racism Inquiry.

Thank-you Lidia for opportunity to have these meaningful conversations that support stronger outcomes for First Nations communities in Far North Queensland!

Thank you Leeanne Enoch MP, for visiting our Cairns office and taking the time to meet with our team! 🤝🏾 It was an amazing opportunity to discuss the priorities and challenges our team and communities across North Queensland are facing and look forward to continuing these important conversations. 🌿

The North Queensland Land Council (NQLC) is the recognized Native Title Representative Body for a vast 943,300-square-kilometer region of land and water across North Queensland.

Catching up with NQLC board members, CEO and staff this week in their Cairns office was a great opportunity to hear about their future plans and the challenges they and their members face.

🖤💛❤️ The NAIDOC celebrations continue!
Yesterday morning, NQLC staff attended the annual NAIDOC Corporate Breakfast, it was a wonderful gathering to celebrate community and the longest living culture!✨
We were inspired by Wuchopperen Health Service Ltd CEO Joy Savage, who shared her thoughtful reflections on service, community, and the importance of supporting one another. A special thank you to Sapphire Dawson from for sharing a powerful story of Blak excellence and a hopeful vision for the future. From Treaty to stronger representation and leadership, her words reminded us of the possibilities ahead for the next 50 years. ✊🏽🌟

We were also honoured to hear from Aunty Henrietta, who spoke on behalf of the Gimuy Walubara Yidinji people, sharing a heartfelt message that reflected the generosity and enduring strength of Yidinji people. ❤️

👏 A big thank you to Cairns Naidoc for once again delivering such an awesome event and bringing community together. And thank you to Daniel, who did a fantastic job as MC, guiding the morning with warmth.

Here's to celebrating 50 Years of Deadly and the generations who continue to shape our future!

This morning, NQLC staff proudly joined the NAIDOC March in Cairns, walking alongside community to celebrate 50 years of NAIDOC and the strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. ✊🏽✨

For five decades, NAIDOC has been a platform for truth-telling, cultural celebration, resistance, and the strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. 🌿

From Elders to young leaders, it was so inspiring to see so many people come together in a vibrant display of culture, community, and pride. As we reflect on this year's theme, 50 Years of Deadly. 🌟

Seeing so many people come together through the streets of Gimuy was a powerful reminder that the legacy of NAIDOC continues to grow stronger with each generation. ❤️💛🖤
This is our story. This is our celebration. This is our future. ✨

Today, 3rd June, we honor the incredible legacy of Torres Strait Islander Eddie Koiki Mabo and the groundbreaking High Court ruling in Mabo v Queensland (No. 2). ⚖️🌿
On this exact day in 1992, the High Court of Australia finally overturned the legal myth of terra nullius—the false claim that this land belonged to no one. This historic decision officially recognized what First Nations people always knew: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have profound, enduring rights to their land. 🗺️✊🏾
Tragically, Eddie Koiki Mabo passed away in January 1992, just months before the monumental ruling that would forever bear his name and reshape Australia. Today, his legacy burns bright in every single step we take toward truth, recognition, and justice.🕊️

NQLC congratulates the Djungan People on their fifth determination of native title. 🎉✨

On Tuesday, 28 April 2026, in Brisbane, the Federal Court of Australia recognised the Djungan People’s native title over their Country. The members of the Applicant travelled to Brisbane to attend this significant occasion in person.

The determination area covers approximately 130 square km of land to the west of Ngarrabullgan (Mount Mulligan) and north of Thornborough. It is adjacent to the Djungan #2 and #3 native title determinations.

NQLC acknowledges the efforts of all Djungan People, including those who provided evidence to support the claim, the members of the Applicant, and Djungan elders past and present, without whom this outcome could not have been achieved.
