BCCI Committee Member Spotlight

This week, we're introducing another member of the Bungendore Chamber of Commerce & Industry committee: Arran Knox from K5 Electrical Services. K5 Electrical Services Pty Ltd

Arran owns K5 Electrical Services and helps homeowners, families, and businesses in Bungendore, Canberra, and nearby areas. His team handles electrical maintenance, repairs, switchboard upgrades, EV chargers, lighting installations, and renovations.

K5 stands out for its focus on clear communication, professionalism, and reliability. Arran says people value honest advice and a great customer experience just as much as quality electrical work.

Arran joined the Chamber because he cares about local business and believes strong businesses help build stronger communities. As a committee member, he is passionate about helping local businesses connect, work together, and grow.

When asked what he enjoys most about doing business in Bungendore, Arran mentioned the strong community spirit:

“People genuinely support local businesses and want to see each other succeed.”

Outside of work, Arran likes spending time with his family, traveling in the caravan, and working on projects at home.

Fun fact: Arran is a self-confessed systems and automation enthusiast who loves finding ways to make businesses run more efficiently. He admits this might be a bit nerdier than most people expect from an electrician!

Thank you, Arran, for your commitment to the Chamber and for supporting local businesses in our region.

If you need a trusted local electrician, reach out to Arran and the team at K5 Electrical Services.

Committee Member Spotlight 👋

This week we’re highlighting Jordan Schouten from Familia Fitness , who serves as Assistant Secretary of the Bungendore Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

Jordan started Familia Fitness at Mick Sherd Oval in January 2020 and has grown it into an award-winning local business. The gym helps people reduce pain, restore movement, and build strength in a friendly and supportive setting.

Beyond running the gym, Jordan is also very active in supporting and growing the Bungendore business community through her work with the Chamber.

As Assistant Secretary, Jordan handles most of the Chamber’s communications, such as social media, newsletters, member updates, and community promotion projects.

“If you see a Chamber social media post, email, or community update, there’s a good chance it came from me.”

Jordan joined the Chamber to get more involved in the community and to help support other local businesses.

“Running a small business can be very rewarding, but it can also be challenging and sometimes lonely. The Chamber gives business owners a chance to connect, support each other, share ideas, and feel part of something bigger.”

Jordan says one of the best things about doing business in Bungendore is the strong sense of community and the real support that local businesses get from both residents and other businesses.

Looking to the future, Jordan hopes to see:
✔ More collaboration between local businesses
✔ More networking and educational opportunities
✔ Greater community engagement at Chamber events
✔ Continued growth and visibility for Bungendore businesses

Earlier this year, Familia Fitness received the QPRC Diversity, Inclusion and Leadership Award. This award shows Familia Fitness's commitment to creating a welcoming space for everyone.

Meet the people behind the Chamber 👋

This week, we’re putting the spotlight on Alan Longhurst, who is the President of the BCCI and owns PHL Surveyors.

Alan has been part of the Bungendore business community since 2007, when he set up his business on Gibraltar Street. With PHL Surveyors, Alan helps developers, residents, farmers and the Council with surveying and planning projects, using his local knowledge to get good results for his clients.

Many people might not know that although PHL Surveyors has been in Bungendore since 2007, the business actually started in the Riverina over 105 years ago.

As BCCI President, Alan sees the Chamber as an important way to help new businesses become part of the community and to support existing businesses through networking, working together and growing as a group.

When asked what he enjoys most about running a business in Bungendore, Alan pointed out how easy it is to do business here:
“Easy parking with no charge, good cafes, access to Council and easy access to Queanbeyan and Canberra if required.”

When asked: "What would you love to see more of in the Bungendore business community?" Alan answered:
✔ More commitment to Chamber events
✔ Positive referrals to local businesses
✔ Stronger involvement from local tradies
✔ Great, cheerful and consistent customer service across town

Outside of work, Alan enjoys lawn bowls, golf and travel. He describes himself as “a boring person happily married to an entertaining (non-boring) person with two great kids.”

His message to the community:
“Get in and join the community outside of hours, and the emotional reward will be great.”

Thank you, Alan, for your leadership, professionalism and ongoing support of the Bungendore business community.

BCCI Committee Member Spotlight

This week, we’re highlighting Martina Woodford from PRD Real Estate Bungendore.

Martina moved to Bungendore in 2009 and soon became a strong supporter of local business and community, both through her work at PRD Real Estate and as a member of the BCCI committee.

Martina is part of the locally owned, family-run PRD team. She helps clients with residential, rural, and commercial sales, as well as property management in Bungendore and the surrounding areas. She especially enjoys building trust, guiding people through big decisions, and making a positive difference for her clients.

Martina believes one of the best parts of doing business in Bungendore is the strong sense of community and local pride:
“People genuinely support each other, and there’s a strong local pride that makes doing business here really special.”

When she’s not at work, Martina is active in the equestrian community. She enjoys Dressage, Showjumping, and Eventing with her horses at local clubs.

Fun fact: Martina bought her first investment property in her early 20s while working three jobs. That experience sparked her passion for real estate and investment. Thank you, Martina, for all that you do for the Bungendore business community and for your continued support of the Chamber.

If you’d like to connect with Martina or the PRD team, they always welcome referrals, recommendations, or even just a friendly chat about the property market.

Last night’s QPRC Business Awards truly celebrated the hardworking businesses, teams, and people who make our region a strong and vibrant community.

It was great to see so many local businesses recognised for their impact across the Queanbeyan-Palerang region. The awards showed the talent and passion in hospitality, tourism, health, retail, agriculture, and community services right here in our area.

Congratulations to all the Bungendore and nearby businesses recognised during the night, especially:

• Captains Flat Hotel
• Santa’s Secret
• Familia Fitness
• The Malbon
• Bendigo Bank
• Roogulli Farm

We understand the hard work, long hours, and dedication it takes to run a local business, especially in regional communities. It’s truly special to see local businesses celebrated on nights like this.

Congratulations again to every finalist, nominee, and award winner. Our region is full of passionate people doing amazing things, and last night showed just how strong and supportive our business community is.

What a fantastic turnout at this morning’s BCCI Business Networking Breakfast!

A huge thank you to The Malbon The Malbon Bungendore for hosting us in such a great location, and to Eric’s for the delicious bacon & egg rolls and coffee to start the morning right.

Thank you as well to Stacey from Bungendore Veterinary Clinic Bungendore Veterinary Surgery for being our Business of the Month and guest speaker. It was great hearing more about the business and its contribution to our local community.

We also heard from Darren from Rotary about plans for a potential Christmas Pageant in Bungendore this December and how local businesses and community members may be able to get involved.

These breakfasts continue to show the strength, collaboration and support within the Bungendore business community. Events like this are such a valuable opportunity to connect, share ideas and help shape the future of our town together.
