This beautiful piece of Norfolk Pine had to be cut down the centre to create a resin river. As I looked more closely, I noticed a naturally thick grain line running almost perfectly straight from one end to the other. It couldn’t have been a better guide for the cut.

The result is a truly unique river table, with each end revealing its own distinctive character. Nature provided the design—I simply followed it.

African mahogany (Khaya) slab after its first coat of hardwax oil (1 of 3 coats).

I have a number of African mahogany (Khaya) slabs that came down during Cyclone Marcus in Darwin in 2018.

Khaya has an interesting history in Darwin. After Cyclone Tracy in 1974, thousands of these trees were planted to rapidly revegetate the city and provide much-needed shade. They helped make Darwin green again, but over time it became clear that their shallow root systems and dense canopies made them vulnerable in severe storms and cyclones, resulting in many being lost.

There’s something special about giving these magnificent trees a second life. Instead of ending up as waste, they become handcrafted furniture with a story that will live on for generations.

Real joinery is generational furniture—pieces your children and grandchildren will be proud to inherit.

In a world of mass-produced furniture, nothing compares to the warmth, character and longevity of real solid timber. Buy it once, enjoy it for a lifetime and beyond.

Work in progress on this kitchen and I couldn’t be happier with how it’s coming together.

I’ve used absolutely stunning Tassie Blackwood timber slabs, and for the main kitchen bench added translucent black resin to achieve the desired width. The contrast and depth in this timber is incredible.

Now onto the scullery — using two slabs from the same tree to keep everything flowing beautifully. Such an impressive piece of timber to work with.

I made this serving board for my sister-in-law for Christmas 🎄
She wanted something simple.

Hand-made from North Queensland Blackwood, finished with a natural hard wax oil to bring out the grain and keep it beautiful for everyday use.

Sometimes simple is timeless 🤍

Camphor Laurel Timber Slab – DIY or Custom Finish

Beautiful Camphor Laurel slab suitable for a dining table, kitchen bench, island, desk, or even a barn door.

📏 Size:

• 2.5 metres long
• 1200 mm wide (option to go wider – see below)

🛠 Current stage:
• Laser machine cut
• Drum sanded
• Ready to be glued into one solid piece
• Final coat of hard wax oil to be applied
💰 Price (DIY project): $1,600

✨ Optional upgrade:

I can join the slab with a resin river in a colour of your choice, increasing the width to over 1300 mm, and finish it ready for use (price on request).

Camphor Laurel is stunning, durable, and perfect for statement pieces.

I love seeing a project come together! 💙
These clients were so creative with their bathroom vanity design, and I was lucky enough to help with the colour planning.
We used beautiful camphor laurel timber paired with a metallic blue resin river, and the result is just stunning. It ties in perfectly with their bathroom vanity and shelves — a real showpiece!
