Philip (Phil) Batty is focused on 5 key areas for his election campaign for Mayor of the Whitsundays region.
His background as a senior executive in the tourism and hospitality industry with notable experience at the London Olympics, Tennis Australia and Crown Casino, Batty is well qualified for the role. Furthermore his involvement in the community has led to some major wins for the Whitsunday region. Upon taking on the role of President of the Proserpine Golf Club, Batty increased profit by 645% from $27,000 to $205,000 in the year 2022-2023. In 2002, Batty was the key to getting a discount airline (Virgin Blue) flying into Proserpine airport. Cruise ships into Airlie Beach were also mainly due to Batty’s intervention and business acumen. In 2020, Batty orchestrated the biggest social media success in history a flash mob in the region with a wedding held at Airlie Beach! To date, the flash mob has had over 1.7 million impressions on Facebook.
Batty is campaigning on 5 key issues for the region.
1. Freezing rate rises. With one of the highest rates in the country, Batty is committed to freezing council rate rises.
2. Solve the housing crisis. Batty has an innovative plan to solve the housing crisis.
3. Engaged decision making. Batty understands the needs of the people in the region.
4. International flights. Building on his success with domestic flights, Batty is turning his attention on securing international flights to the region.
5. Improve regional roads. Batty understands business and knows having major arterial roads available through predictable weather conditions is essential.
When asked why he wants to be Mayor, Batty talks about his love for the Whitsundays, “I think it is one of the truly magnificent locations anywhere in the world.”
Batty is very aware of the potential of the region. “The whole region has so much untapped and unrealised potential to grow and diversify. Development, industry, tourism and conservation can all co-exist if there is a will and a strength from the leadership to make it happen.”

About Philip Batty
Philip Batty lives in Cannonvale with his wife of 45 years. He has two daughters and six grandchildren. Batty has lived in the Whitsundays region since 2002.
Batty’s career has focused on the tourism and hospitality industry and he has been an active participant in matters for the community including orchestrating the largest flash mob in the region, activating the cruise industry for Airlie Beach and negotiating flights into Proserpine airport.
