Construction Site Report: LAURUS – Mário Sacramento 🏗️🌍

With “LAURUS – Mário Sacramento”, a multi-storey residential building in Aveiro is demonstrating the potential of timber construction in Portugal.

The five-storey structure is being built entirely from timber — including walls, floors, and the elevator and staircase core, executed using KLH® – CLT. The project stands out for meeting seismic requirements with a fully timber-based structural system.

This approach enables efficient prefabrication and smooth on-site assembly while ensuring high energy performance and living comfort.

Léo Lagrange – Timber Structure for an Open Public Campus 🏫🌿

A formerly closed sports site in Les Mureaux has been transformed into an open public campus, reconnecting the surrounding neighbourhoods.

Education, sports and community use now come together within a single structure — designed to remain active beyond school hours.

Structurally, the building follows a timber system of columns and beams, complemented by KLH® – CLT for walls and ceilings that provide horizontal bracing. In total, more than 7,000 m² of KLH® panels were used, including areas forming accessible and green roof structures.

Ein Vormittag, viele Perspektiven: Bei „Jobs aus der Box“ an der Mittelschule Scheifling konnten wir vorige Woche zeigen, wie unterschiedlich die Wege bei KLH aussehen können. Vom Werkstoff Brettsperrholz bis zu technischen Aufgabenstellungen wurde schnell klar, wie breit unser Spektrum ist.

Im Mittelpunkt standen nicht Präsentationen, sondern das gemeinsame Tun und der direkte Dialog mit den Schüler*innen – offen, unkompliziert und mit vielen konkreten Fragen.

MaMaJu Village Store – Timber Construction for Local Supply and Community 🌿

In Pfaffenhofen an der Glonn, Germany, the MaMaJu village store was realised as a small-scale building that combines local supply with a place for everyday encounters. The store offers regional and sustainably produced goods while also serving as a meeting point within the village.

The load-bearing structure was executed using KLH® – CLT, with exposed elements forming the walls and roof.

The prefabricated elements allowed for precise construction and form a clear, compact structural system.

Inside, the timber surfaces remain visible and shape the character of the space. The exposed mass timber creates a calm and natural atmosphere, reflecting the building’s role as a place for both shopping and social interaction.

For its comprehensive sustainable design, the building was awarded the DGNB Gold certification.🏆

INSPIRE – Curved Timber Structure at La Défense 🌆🌿

In a district defined by concrete, steel and glass, INSPIRE introduces timber construction to La Défense, contributing to the ongoing transformation of this established business environment.

The seven storey office building provides around 22,000 m² of office and service space, organised around a central atrium that structures circulation and daylight.

Structurally, the building combines a reinforced concrete base with a timber superstructure. Floor slabs are executed using KLH® – CLT, with approximately 15,000 m² installed. The building’s curved geometry is directly reflected in the panel design, requiring custom‑shaped CLT elements and precise coordination between design and ex*****on.

Projects like this demonstrate how timber can be applied at scale in dense, urban contexts and inspire further projects.

The all.in99 project in Wörgl comprises 29 apartments across four storeys, realised in a nearly complete mass timber structure.

The load-bearing system is executed in KLH® – CLT, used for exterior walls, floors and internal partitions. The high degree of prefabrication enabled a clearly structured and efficient construction process, with the timber structure assembled within approximately 10 weeks. Even the lift shaft was realized in timber, underlining the structural consistency of the concept.

The development offers approximately 2,089 m² of usable residential space, complemented by balconies, loggias and roof terraces. A 38-space underground garage completes the residential scheme.

Passive Living in a Demanding Mountain Landscape 🏔️🌿

Nestled in the tourist area of Rucăr, close to the Carpathian Mountains, this low energy passive house responds to a demanding mountainous context with strict performance constraints.

A simple architectural form inspired by local rural identity is combined with rigorous Passive House principles. The building achieves high energy performance standards and is pre certified as a low energy passive house.

Built with 525 m² (46 m³) of KLH® – CLT, the structure was assembled in just 5 days by 4 workers. KLH® ensures structural efficiency, sustainability, and indoor comfort.

More than 80% of interior surfaces are exposed CLT, celebrating the natural texture and warm tones of wood. The exposed roof geometry creates spatial depth and a generous interior atmosphere despite the small footprint.

Homestead Extension — Dialogue Between Old and New🌱

The Homestead Extension transforms an existing rural house through a contemporary timber addition, establishing a clear dialogue between past and present. Rather than a simple renovation, the project preserves the original structure while introducing a precise, modern architectural language in KLH® – CLT.

As architect Daniel Nicolae Popescu explains, “the project is not only about extension, but about respect. Conservation and innovation become a single architectural act, where each intervention adds a new layer without erasing the existing one.” This approach allows old and new to coexist as part of a continuous architectural narrative.

The new volumes enhance spatial continuity and energy performance, supported by passive house strategies and photovoltaic systems, while maintaining a strong connection to local building traditions.

Pallars – Urban Timber Construction at the Scale of the City 🏙️🌿

With Pallars, timber construction is part of Barcelona’s everyday urban fabric. The residential building comprises eight storeys (ground floor in concrete + 7 floors in wood) and 42 apartments in Poblenou.

Its load-bearing system is realised with KLH® – CLT, prefabricated and assembled on site. The structure enabled individual floors to be assembled in just four days, demonstrating the efficiency of prefabricated timber construction.
The project follows a highly standardised design, including 126 identical window units, supporting quality control and rapid assembly.

Pallars shows how mass timber can be applied in multi-storey housing as a practical and scalable urban solution.

Animal Welfare Free-Stall Barn 🐄

From the initial excavation of the slurry pit to the installation of the timber elements, this Animal Welfare Free-Stall Barn for 24 dairy cows including young stock was realized with precision and strong teamwork under a demanding schedule.

The KLH® – CLT ceiling truly defines the building’s character, creating a naturally warm atmosphere while significantly reducing noise levels — supporting a calm and balanced herd. Combined with the integrated ventilation gap, it ensures a healthy indoor climate without moisture accumulation — a small detail with a big impact on animal wellbeing.

This project highlights how mass timber construction enhances animal welfare and long-term quality in agricultural buildings.
