For 20 years, Earth Overshoot Day remained in August. In 2026, we have crossed another alarming threshold: July 30❗

Today, humanity has already used all the ecological resources our planet can regenerate in an entire year. The graphic makes the long-term development impossible to ignore: since the early 1970s, our ecological debt has continued to grow.

Over the past five years, Earth Overshoot Day had already moved to the very beginning of August.
Now, for the first time since 2006, it falls in July.

At our current rate of consumption, humanity is living as if we had 1.73 Earths available for this year. But we only have one. 🌍

For the building industry, this is a clear call to act. We need to use materials more responsibly, reduce embodied carbon and scale solutions that respect our planet’s limits. At CREE Buildings, caring for our planet and using resources responsibly isn't just part of what we do - it's one of our core values. We believe meaningful change starts with the decisions we make every day, and that together, many small steps can lead to a lasting impact.

Earth Overshoot Day reminds us that there is still time to change the course - but only if we all do our part.

💡What step do you think our industry should take next?

1925 Victoria Park in Toronto is taking shape – a 15,820 m² timber-hybrid residential development setting new standards for sustainable urban living.🏗️💡

Designed as a forward-looking residential project, 1925 Victoria Park combines industrialized timber-hybrid construction with ambitious sustainability goals. The development integrates geothermal technology and TABS heating and cooling while leveraging prefabrication to ensure precision, speed, and reduced environmental impact.

Wojciech Niedzwiedz and Michael Kamenik visited the construction site to see the latest progress firsthand and meet with the partners driving the project forward.

Current progress:
• Foundation works well underway
• Geothermal probes installed
• Two tower cranes now in place

Beyond the construction progress, the visit highlighted the strength of collaboration across the CREE Network. Together with partners such as Well Grounded Real Estate, Serotiny Group, Aspect Structural Engineers, and Peikko, the project demonstrates how integrated expertise supports efficient project delivery from planning through construction.

What happens before a building arrives on site?🏗️💡

For the 1925 Victoria Park, 15,820 m² residential project in Toronto, it all begins in the factory. Key components are already taking shape at the production facilities of CUBE Building Systems and Anchor Concrete Products, where precision and collaboration drive every step of the process.

Industrialized construction starts long before assembly begins. Through off-site prefabrication, quality, efficiency, and predictability are built into the project from day one. This project is also a strong example of how different partners across the CREE Network contribute their expertise:

Production highlights:

• Prefabricated wall elements manufactured by CUBE Building Systems, including integrated window solutions from Schüco
• Timber-concrete composite slab elements produced by Anchor Concrete Products
• Glulam beams and columns supplied by HASSLACHER Group
• Formwork expertise transferred by Brüninghoff, supporting production at Anchor’s facility in Canada

A special thank you to CUBE Building Systems and Anchor Concrete Products for the warm welcome and the valuable insights into your production http://processes.

Student housing is no longer just about providing accommodation. 💡👩‍🎓

Today's developments are expected to create places where students can study, connect, recharge, and feel at home. This places new demands not only on architecture, but also on how buildings are planned and delivered.

At CREE Buildings, we believe industrialized construction should never come at the expense of great living environments. Our Student Housing Solution combines efficient modular planning with flexible room concepts, generous communal spaces, exposed timber, and biophilic design principles that contribute to healthier indoor environments and long-term student well-being.

Because better student experiences begin with better building concepts.
