Ever since the founding of DUX in 1926, our ambition has been to manufacture the world’s most comfortable beds. Nothing else has ever been as important to us. But let us for a moment turn the clock back to 1924 – the year the history of DUX begins. Swedish chocolate maker Efraim Ljung is on a business trip to The New World, and has now arrived in Chicago.
Efraim Ljung checked into a small, unremarkable hotel in central Chicago as a chocolate maker – and checked out as a bed innovator. The night he spent there had resulted in an awakening, in a double sense. “How can a bed be so comfortable?” he asked himself after a night’s sleep that had surpassed any he had previously experienced.
Overwhelmed with curiosity, Efraim quickly debated with his conscience before removing his pen knife and making a careful incision in the bed’s fabric. His discovery surprised and fascinated him – the bed was constructed of flexible steel springs. He carefully stitched the fabric together again, but carried the memory of what he had found back to Sweden.
