A truly splendid 1st Robert Burn's Night here in Sedge was held last night to raise funds for STMM. Thank you for everyone who attended and a big thank you to Jim Mitchell and his team for organising it. The feedback was so great, that it seems like it might become an annual event. Albeit that what was said was not always understood, the Scottish accent and kilts made up for it. Bomber Webb (MC)was living the Scottish dream and his usual entertaining self made the evening more memorable.

Boerie Bash at La Piazza

It was the third time lucky for the “Boerie Bash” at la Piazza on the last Thursday of July. The two previous times the weather chucked everything at us but this day dawned bright and the evening was balmy. Thankfully the guests were not and the very generous Sedgefielders turned up in support of our local charity.

A great vote of thanks to Gary and the Boerie Bash team at La Piazza and the famous boerie rolls, which duly arrived during the evening. A further pat on the back on the back goes to Gary who lent his expertise to auctioning off some very smart prizes including a week end for two at Pine Lake Marina and a voucher for four people to visit Monkeyland and view all 3 attractions. Kirsten was also in evidence persuading the guests to participate in the raffle where prizes included vouchers from local support like Bistro Celeiro, Montecello, Steam Whistle and the Pharmacy.

Supporters who donated vouchers to raffle & auction were Andre from African Affairs, Susan & Julio at Bistro Celeiro, Hoekville, Paul & Elmay from Blackwaters Lodge, Yvonne from Chorister Cottage, Eugene at Cycleworx, Peter & Marie at Deo Gratia, Joan from Dolphin Stationers, John & Dee – For Arts Sake and Lucille at FlyTime.
Other supporters were Debbie from Lions, Anita from Montecello, Lesley Roberts kindly donated an Anthony Noble painting for auction, Cliff at the Pharmacy, Tony & Lara from Monkeyland, Leon from Pine Lake Marina, Ben from 3Potato4, Joe & Louisa at Whistle Stop, Mike at Sedge Links, Linda from Volkswagen Knysna with a very handsome cash donation.
Lesley Hoffman, a long time supporter of Slow Town Mobile Meals and other charities in the village, donated a beautiful hand made doll. Raffle sheets for the doll had been distributed with various businesses in the village before the Bash. The draw for the doll was made on the night and the total amount earned for the raffle was R 1 750. Thank you Lesley !!

While the object of the exercise of the “Bash” was to raise finances in order to keep Mobile Meals in the black, we are eternally grateful for the income received from our regular donors. Should you wish to commit any amount regularly to Mobile Meals, donations may be made into our bank account - Slow Town Mobile Meals, FNB a/c 62502775549 code 210 229.

Cash deposits can still be made at the Tourism Office – please try and avoid cash deposits direct into our bank account, as the bank erode the donation by their charges.

I will be happy to answer any queries or concerns you may have on Slow Town Mobile Meals.

CHAIRMAN`S REPORT, June 2016
Another year has passed and thanks to the generosity of the people of Sedgefield, we are still preparing and delivering approximately 1 200 meals a month to people less fortunate than ourselves.
Funding is essential to enable us to “provide & deliver meals to the aged, frail and disabled or needy people, regardless of race, colour or creed”. Our income comes from 3 main sources, our regular committed monthly supporters, donations from charity organisations including various churches and Fund raising activities like raffles, making pancakes and can collections at Wild Oats. We are also grateful for the contributions of a variety of food and vegetables received, sometimes anonymously, at our kitchen in the Municipal offices.
Over recent months, there has been a concerning trend showing a decline in our Funds, where our monthly Expenses have exceeded our monthly Income. While we are in a stronger financial position than we were 18 months ago, I would appeal to those who can afford it, to commit to regular monthly payments into our account with FNB a/c 62502775549.
Our charity is run mainly by volunteers and there is no “management charge” reducing our income. The majority of all donations go to the purchase of supplies used in the preparation of meals. We have 2 paid employees working in the kitchen and we serve meals to the people of Sedgefield and the immediate surrounds.
We have a new Non-Profit Organisation number, 150-516NPO and having completed our first fiscal year, we have applied SARS for Income Tax Exemption. We are in a position to issue Donation Receipts in terms of section 18A of the Income Tax Act 1962. Any requests to obtain this document may be sent to the writer.
We could not exist without our group of volunteers who give their time to help with delivering meals and assist us with our various Fund raising events. My very grateful thanks also to the members of the committee who have adopted their individual portfolios with enthusiasm and do sterling work. Saskia for doing great with Secretarial duties, Judith for keeping meticulous control of our finances, Beattie for her economic buying of our supplies, Alan, our stalwart chef in the kitchen with his helpers Elsie and Chantal, Meg for keeping control of our “client list” and Angie for church liaison.
We are making a difference in the lives of a number people in Sedgefield, who are less fortunate than us and with your help we will be to continue with this worthy cause.
