In keeping with only the โ๐จ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฅ ๐ด๐ต๐ถ๐ง๐งโ and sharing the positive news, reviews and stories of Plettenburg Bay, we thought this visitors account of The Grand Cafe & Rooms, Plettenburg Bay was well worth sharing.
โJust as travel for business opened we visited Plettenberg Bay. We contacted a few establishments whilst the hospitality tried to navigate themselves within the new rules.
The Grand was the first to get back to us and offer us a room to stay in these truly unpresciented times. They were obliging and welcoming outlining what they were allowed to offer and not, provided us with vouchers from old town Italy in exchange for their normal breakfast and explained they would require our permits to confirm our booking.
On arrival we were their very first visitors during the lockdown period, we filled out their paperwork as they used their thermometer for the first time scanning our temperature.
As we completed their paperwork, I considered all the effort they had gone to - accommodating us with such warmth.
Each day as we ventured out for our meetings they encouraged us on, their masked staff from the wonderful housekeeper, area manager and infamous barista smiling, offering us anything we needed and advising us as we found our feet in such uncertain times.
I sat in their empty restaurant one morning thinking about how in previous holiday seasons the open plan restaurant buzzed, and how the entrance hall had acted as a waiting area for a rumbling line of queuing customers.
And now here I sat, a single patron occupying only one table, the air only filled with sanitizer.
What I will always take with me, is that their level of professionalism and enthusiasm didnโt waiver.
The immaculate room, towering beds (which provide the very best night of sleep) crisp linen and grand old fair will always stay in my mind when I look back on COVID-19.
