Few machines draw more benefit from Hägglunds solutions than bucket wheel reclaimers, and high torque is just part of the reason. With only the hydraulic motor on the wheel shaft and the drive unit positioned off the boom, the counterweights can be lighter and the whole machine can be leaner – including the slew drive system. We have officially opened our new hydraulics laboratory in Mellansel! 🎉

This investment represents a major step forward, reinforcing our dedication to innovation in direct drive systems. Covering an area of 1,500 square meters, the new laboratory includes four newly equipped test cells and a brand new pump room, as well as a state-of-the-art, newly developed control system, enabling us to test our Hägglunds motors at full scale.

– The pump room is the heart, and the control system is the brain. Together, they give us entirely new capabilities to test, measure, and produce the data our customers need to make their investment decisions, says Daniel Kajhager, Head of Research and Development.

The laboratory is also engineered for significant energy efficiency, enabling savings of 200 MWh per year, and provides a future-proof platform to develop solutions for industry needs we may not even be aware of yet.

Key features of the new laboratory include:

▪️ Full-Scale & Modular Testing: Four newly equipped test cells for flexible motor setups.
▪️ Precise Data & Controls: A new control system delivering exact data for AI systems and computational models.
▪️ Ergonomic & Safe by Design: A purpose-built environment ensuring a safe and efficient workflow for our team.
