Silver Oak cabin, one of several similar cabins in a private bush camp in the Waterberg, takes its name from four Silver Oak trees growing on the site. A level portion of site bounded by these trees served as the building footprint, set in amongst the trees, with the outdoor bathroom built around a beautiful Silver Oak alongside a natural rock formation. The design was inspired by the site and to accommodate the 3 seasons of the Waterberg; a cool dry Winter with chilly nights & mild days, a hot & dry transition around August to October, and a longer wet & hot summer from November to April, with afternoon thunderstorms and heavy rainstorms. The structure comprises stone clad brickwork, with stone collected on the site, concrete, and timber. There is no glass, instead the sliding and clerestory openings have insect screens, allowing birdsong and the most gentle of breezes through even when closed.
