Together with the ergonomically perfect seating angle this provides for your personal relaxing space in the house. And the best part? It’s all made right here in our factory in Culemborg.�� ⁠

The Armchair for Metz&Co is named after the Amsterdam department store Metz&Co for whom Gerrit Rietveld designed the chair in 1942. At the time the chair was created, the Netherlands was occupied by the Germans, who had established a Kultuurkamer. Because Rietveld refused to become a member of this institute, the chair was never produced. Rietveld’s working drawings and prototypes have fortunately been preserved, so that the chair could still be produced 75 years after its first design.⁠
The dovetail joint in the wooden frame shows craftsmanship, a feast for the eyes!⁠

On the right we see Truus Schröder, Rietveld’s muse.
The two first met when Gerrit came to deliver a classic desk to her home on de Biltstraat in Utrecht as his father's helper. The desk was for her husband Frits Schröder. When Truus rejected the design as old-fashioned, she found Rietveld on her side.
