I've been a bit neglectful on here as Instagram is where I'm most active along with my 3.3K followers (Link in my bio) but not everyone has it so here I am!

I've also been very busy and my commission diary is almost full for the rest of the year!

𝒜𝓃𝓎𝓌𝒶𝓎, a bit of news about my workwear dungarees! For those who have just joined me here (Thank you!) I have designed my own painting dungarees and was at the very point of having them manufactured, but my last minute gut feeling told me that there was something not quite right about the fabric and I stopped everything.

Well I was right to do so, as the fabric was a form of polyester (The manufacturer wasn't particularly clear) and this would have definitely not been in line with my sustainability ethos!

However, I will now have a Summer Intern from Heriot Watt University Edinburgh with me, who will be working on the design and fabric. I'm extremely excited to be able to offer this opportunity, which in turn will help me.

We're getting there!

Being featured in a magazine for my upcycled furniture is something I’m secretly proud of. What started off as a passion for giving old things a new life, has led to this amongst other things, and I’m so grateful for the recognition! It's not easy working away on your own in a rural workshop and it's so nice when others can see what I can do!

Anyway, here’s to creative upcycling and sustainability! 🙌

Another side of what I do as to me, 'upcycling' isn't just paint!

None of these pieces arrived looking like this!

Most came completely buried under paint or old varnish, that was thick enough to tell its own story, or rescued from damp conditions where their potential was a harder to see, due to lifting veneer or warped doors!

When I start on pieces like this, I usually say “Right, let's see what’s under here!” Then it’s the long process to strip off every bit of old paint or varnish by hand, so the piece is right back to its bare minimum.

If the veneer is beautiful but damaged, then in order to save it, I carefully repair it and then use different shades and tones of paint to mimic the grain. And if I can’t save it, I’ll use paint that enhances the parts that I could!

Do you think it’s worth all the time and effort to get these vintage pieces back to their very best?

I really do hate to see them completely painted over with one colour and the original handles changed!

I get asked why I started upcycling furniture. Well, here's a little read!

My late parents were from a generation who looked after what they already owned, and I was bought up to do the same as we didn’t have a great deal of money to buy new. That has always stayed with me and I have honestly never seen the need to buy new when something could be fixed and kept going for future use! We live in such a throw away society today really don't we?

If you have any furniture that is crying out for a restoration or creative makeover so you can keep using it, well... you know where I am! (But no plain whites or greys here please!)

Fun fact! I have now revived, restored and transformed over 200+ pieces of old furniture! Wonder how many tonnes that is? Anyone? I estimate about 4!
