Let’s just call this one “how it started vs. how it ended” a lovely piece of live edge acacia wood. Bleached to remove the red & gold tones, stained with a rich black stain & finished with a dark walnut danish oil finish. Heavy, solid & most importantly able to stand the rest of time. While this was no easy task, the end result was definitely worth it.

No we haven’t gotten into the framing business but we did do a lot of modifications and install today! These shadowboxes house a large heirloom collection of shoe shaped snuffboxes. This collection was intricate and elaborate and we were so honored to help our client bring her vision to life!

Here we go! This beautifully crafted secretary needed some love and I couldn’t be happier to give it. The first photo is where we started there was some damage from years of use on the top so we started with removing all of the original finish & let me tell you- that was no easy task! Once I had a clean slate I applied the first coat of vintage white stain & once that dries I’ll be able to go in and apply a second to give the opaque look that needed before we can add some color back in to give it a thoroughly restored fresh look. *Stay tuned for the final reveal*

I’m trying to be better about sharing the process- while this piece appears to be pretty straightforward, with so many nooks it’s time consuming! To take this piece from a bleached wood look to black is no simple task. We started with a deep clean, full scuff sand, several coats of tinted primer with sanding between coats and now I’m adding thin layers of the deepest true black enamel paint with sanding in between each layer. The prep and all of the small steps throughout the refinishing process are what ensures a finish that will hold up under the pressure of every day use.

Not every project appears huge, this filing cabinet needed a lot of repair work before we could even begin the cosmetic makeover. Dressed up in in the most lovely shade of olive, the hardware was updated with a brushed gold and each drawer was lined with some sassy 🍍 paper. I’d say this is better than new

A technique I haven’t gotten to do in a while. Layers and layers of blended colors and varying shades can often give you a look you only thought possible with stain. Sometimes when working with a certain type of wood it’s simply impossible to get to the desired finish with out the help of paint. This vintage trunk is being refinished for toy storage and when doing a piece for the littles, you absolutely must go the route of durable and safe so that’s exactly where I’m headed
