YOU ARE ALLOWED TO WANT MORE
if you've come to this day in your life and you are feeling unfulfilled, you are allowed to start making shifts toward a better path for yourself. you are allowed to want more. even if your life has turned out exactly as you planned!! and you still feel like something isn't quite right, something is still nagging at you that is unfinished or unexplored. maybe there are curiosities calling to you, you are allowed to listen and take action towards them.
🤘
you are allowed to want to learn a new skill or sharpen one that's been dormant for a while.
🎨
you are allowed to take a class to explore a career shift or learn a language to take a trip to a place that is calling to you!
⛵️
don't let logistics stand in the way at this point, just let your mind run to the edges of your desire, your longing. what would it look like and feel like to do that thing?
just let yourself feel it and want it.

i'd love to hear what pops in your head reading this, what is your "more"?

"who you are is beautiful and amazing" was said by the beautiful and amazing and i couldn't agree MORE.

15 years ago, i was admitted to a mental hospital for being a risk to myself. since then, i've worked like hell to create a joyful, authentic life. it wasn't easy then, it isn't always easy now, but it's SO damn worth it.
i wanted to share three things i heard in those early days of learning to stand up straight again that i thought could be of use:
1) YOU GOTTA MAKE YOUR OUTSIDE SELF MATCH YOUR INSIDE SELF
this one hit me so hard, because my outside self was SO wildly different than who truly was.
this took years! the loss of friendships, a marriage, an identity(!) but i still look to these words to assess myself even now. if i feel my response to a question or invitation that is out of alignment, i recognize it immediately and work to recover. it truly is a north star.
2) SET A TIMER, WALLOW HARD FOR 15 MINUTES, THEN GET BACK TO LIVIN'
if you are in a place where you have some big, powerful emotions, give yourself time to feel them, deeply, but set a timer and when it dings, stand up, dust off and shift your focus to something that makes you feel stronger, that helps you shift to gratitude. i used to do this (and y'all i can win a wallow championship!) and then the ding would sound and i would wash my face, lace up my shoes and get outside. i would breathe deep breaths, i would notice nature, the birds, a flower blooming, maybe a flower dying, i would feel that, and with each step, i felt stronger. i felt my conviction to learn to live well.
3) TELL THE STORY AGAIN, BUT IN LOWERCASE
shout out Dr. Rubenstein! this is another one i STILL tell myself once a week at least. when we are in conversation with ourselves in our heads with only ourselves to respond, things can get spun into a frenzy, some would say in ALL CAPS.
by taking a deep breath and talking the story out loud, this can be to yourself, intentionally making it lowercase (read: deflating some of the emotion out of it) you can see it more clearly and know better how to react so you are protecting yourself and probably also seeing through a more empathetic lens.
hope this helps a little,
xx,
jenni

lort, we know this is true.
life is tough.
it's surprises us and delights us at times,
but can shock and worry us at others.

remember when the 'river' that you are stepping in today that is inevitably different from yesterday, you are tough enough and brave enough to handle it and remain standing.

i can't emphasize this enough...
ACTION IS THE ONLY thing that is going to move the needle on making your life different, whether that's calmer, bigger, freer, wilder, more aligned, more authentic! whatever you are wanting, dreaming about it won't make that change, hoping for it won't make that change. you gotta take some leaps!
you may never FEEL ready, but start making shifts. just start.
it will feel amazing, i promise.

i DO love a hot dog on memorial day, y'all. it takes me back to the gatherings we used to have at my grandparent's house with all the family. there's nothing like the first bite into a southern dressed dog that can bring my grandmother's laugh to my ears, my cousins yelling tag or gotcha, it just transports me to my childhood.
in southern West Virginia we did a hot dog like this:
-dog-ketchup-mustard-chili-slaw (Earl and my mom would both add chopped onion and sweet pickle relish, to each their own...) note: our hot dog chili had no beans and our toppings were added in the order listed, no exceptions. if you put the mustard on top of the slaw, you'd get thrown out of the yard.
☀️
as i was preparing for this post i looked up what other areas of the country do to their hot dogs and i was NOT prepared!!
🌭
Northern California!! y'all are crazy
-dog wrapped in bacon (this is apparently a western thing), with lettuce, tomato and mayo
🌭
Carl and Neil Fletcher from Dallas, Texas claim to be the inventor of the corndog, i dug in a little and couldn't find proof of this claim, just others who also claim to have invented the corn dog. the best corndog i ever had was in the Reading Terminal Market in Philly. it was served with a hot honey mustard dip. gah... so good.
🌭
Detroit, y'all do it a little like Skyline chili! shredded cheddar cheese, raw onion and beef chili with beans
🌭
Chicago takes it next level with SO many large toppings, i'm not sure i wouldn't need a fork for this kind, but it looks amazing. they do fresh tomato slices, big pickles, hot pepper, sweet onion and looks like mustard and chopped onion are optional.
🌭
and last one on this list, but certainly not least original, is New York. y'all do a spicy brown mustard and sauerkraut and sautéed onion.
now, this couldn't be farther than the taste i want to have in my mouth as a southern woman on memorial day, but i'm sure you look at our chili and slaw and think the same thing! that's why we all get to decide what our favorite things are! ahhh, choice. it's a beautiful thing.

how do you dress your dogs where you're from?
AND/OR what did the internet tell me wrong about your region?!

something that has recently been named for me is the concept of a “blue sky” day. a day to get out the BIG paper and dream as big as you can dream, for yourself for your business, places you want to travel, skills you want to master (or try!), nothing in your way! a blue sky day. i did this recently and it was so expansive. i’ve been dreaming up next season and even looking into next year but ALL the things?! from all the different parts of life, i hadn’t done that. i’m starting to set up a space in house to paint again, just for the love to painting. not as a product. i’m starting to notice when things are offered that feel aligned with what i uncovered on this day… it’s amazing to make the space to seek clarity can do for your mind, to release it from its logic and limits and justt see what comes forth!! drop a comment about what you hope and dream of for yourself 🤘💛
