Found a shed skin and was sure it was a cottonmouth by the size but after unraveling, it turned out to be a non venomous water snake. I have found the largest banded water snake I have seen in this area so maybe it is hers. Pics show the rough keeled scales of watersnakes One way to tell it it is from a non venomous snake is the double ventral scales on the underside of the tail section. The upper body is single scales and turns to double scales after the a**l opening If this was a cottonmouth the scales would be single belly scales before and after the a**l opening(about where my thumb is).

Not alot of snakes out in the cold so here are just a few captive educational snakes for your viewing pleasure. The diamondback rattlesnake Chill loves the new cave. I call the Pygmy rattlesnake Sausage. It’s a little chunky. Then our timber aka canebrake rattlesnake. The rough green snake happened to be waiting on food and looking pretty so had to get his picture. When not hungry he is hard to find. These can be seen in person at the Environmental Studies Center in Mobile,AL. M-F 8am-4pm
