This one was a little extra special! This sweet dresser was found on the side of the road and has been refinished for a friend’s nursery, to be used as a changing table.
It’s one of those projects that reminds you that a little sanding, new paint and new hardware can go a long way. If you’re planning to purchase new furniture for a baby’s room or kid’s room here’s your sign to consider refinished furniture. Well made, used furniture is build to last. Using something like a dresser as a changing table can grow with your baby and can be used as a traditional dresser later on.
I will forever be obessed with this color, “Restoration Bronze” by . 💚 It’s a perfect muted yet warm green for this sweet room.
and thank you for trusting me with this. It was such an honor to add an addition to Baby Boy’s room!

Two rounds of sanding, three coats of paint and three rounds of top-coat and this table and chairs is finally across the finish line!
I’m obsessed with this Solstice Green color by ! It’s such a soft natural blue/green but with the perfect amount of muted color. This table and chairs was a commission piece for a returning customer. It had been well loved and needed a fresh look. The topcoat was the perfect finish to give it a little extra durability. This table is going to be moving to an apartment where it will be used as the main family dining table hopefully for years to come!

I fell in love with the details on this empire style drop leaf table. The top needed a ton of repairs, which definitely tested my patience but I’m so glad I stuck with it. As always I love a dark blue and I went with Apothecary Gray by !
A little historical tidbit for you- Empire style furniture is a French-inspired style that was popular from 1800 to 1840 and is known for oriental details, unique carvings and dark finishes.

Hi there! 🤚 I’ve been on a bit of a furniture hiatus, to say least, but I’m back!
This was such a fun piece to help me get back into the swing of things!
Painted in beautiful Cinder gray with gold accepts this piece could be a perfect little kitchen workstation or living room addition! I fell in love with the front spinal legs, and I’m so glad I chose to keep those unpainted.

Because it’s so much more than just furniture….it’s our family stories, memories and reminds of those who mean the most to us. 🤍
It’s often those family heirlooms that stay with us through the years and through various moves from place to place.
This project was a little extra special. This pair of end tables were my grandparents, they had had them since they were newlyweds. They had quite a bit of wear and tear from countless holidays parties and use by many grandkids and great grandkids.
After lots of sanding, scrubbing and painting they’ve got a new life! I had originally painted them a deep green but I immediately felt like they needed more warmth to compliment the original wood handles and to speak to their original color, “Mojave” by was just the color! I can’t wait to use them in my own home as nightstands.
Don’t assume that a piece that has been in your family for generations is past its prime or is too dated to use. A little elbow grease and paint can go a long way. KJ Design is also here to help!
Lastly, take a look at this sweet picture from the 1950’s which includes my Grandfather Bob, Grandmother Joan, Great-Great Grandmother Isabelle, and Great Grandmother Helen all gathered by the tree with one of the end tables next to them. 🤍

This little hutch was a fun one!
It’s painted in beautiful Cinder by with a white interior. You seriously cannot go wrong with this true gray color! This piece is the perfect size for a small dining area or living room.
I went back and forth on whether to keep the lattice but I am so glad that I did! I love the contrast between the gray, white, dark wood and the gold hardware.

It all began a year ago….with a few carloads and a garage full of project pieces!
At the time I was looking for a sideboard for the dining room of my new house. I was disappointed to find that many of the new pieces I was considering seemed to be out of my budget and also poor quality. Sooo I went on a mission to buy a secondhand sideboard to refinish myself. I quickly fell in love with the process and the result! Today this is my favorite piece of furniture in my house.
A year ago I had also just finished repainting the interior of my house. I found that painting walls was strangely therapeutic and while I was happy to be done painting 6+ rooms I weirdly missed it.
For me it is much more then a paint brush and a piece of furniture. As a full time Clinical Social Worker, painting and refinished furniture has become a form of self-care. There is something so grounding about putting a putting a paint brush to wood and seeing the tangible results of your hard work.
Thank you to my Mom .u who pushed me to give this a try! She also never turns down an opportunity to head to a tag sale, flea market or estate sale. As a talented painter herself (of actual paintings haha) she also has an eye for color and interior design. She is the first person I consult with then I feel stuck on a color choice or while staging.
Thank you to my sweet and supportive husband who probably assumed that when we bought a house with a garage he would be able to use it 😂 instead he has allowed me to fill it with furniture and turn it into my little studio. He is a good sport and the literal muscle behind KJ Designs. He has attended flea markets in the pouring rain and has gotten up early on Saturdays to load and deliver furniture.
Thank you all for following along and supporting my furniture journey! I hope my story inspires you to try something new, practice self-care and lean into your creative side.
Here’s to another year and lots more furniture! I’ve got a few special projects coming up that I can’t wait to share. 🤍

Drop leaf tables do not get the hype they deserve! Am I right?
If you are looking for a sweet yet multi-functional piece to fit a small space, a drop leaf has you covered!
I was feeling a little indecisive on color, so of course I went with classic navy by ! In my opinion, you can truly never go wrong with navy. I had fun playing around with some gold gilding wax which I used to update the hardware and feet. I hope you love this sweet little drop leaf as much as I do!

I took a bit of a furniture hiatus recently but this antique record cabinet was the perfect piece to get me back into the swing of things and feeling re-inspired.
Record cabinets are typically a unique size with a decent amount of storage, which makes them super versatile. This piece could easily be used as a tv console, night stand, end table or my personal favorite a coffee/wine bar! ☕️
I have been on a green kick lately and I absolutely fell in love with “Talley Green” by . It is a true green that has the most beautiful earthy tone to it. Check out this transformation ➡️

I had so much fun working on these sweet end tables!
Restoration Bronze by may just be my new favorite color!😍 It has such a sophistication to it and is the perfect color to ground a light/airy space.
These sweet tables are headed to a returning customer who is planning to use them as night stands. We had so much fun developing a design. The simple lines on these tables made for a perfect canvas for a more modern look.
