Recently took an order for multiple cutting boards. These were a great project, hope they enjoy them! I also love the small cutting board idea for smaller items.

My favorite part of woodworking is when I deliver a product to a customer and you see their eyes light up with joy and excitement. Nothing beats seeing how happy something you just made makes another person. This tray was made for a good friend of mine for their baby shower. Curly black walnut tray with wenge sides. After I delivered it they put it to use immediately and I couldn’t have been happier. I’m so glad they loved it!

Tried my hand at an epoxy river cutting board. I’ve learned a lot about working with epoxy, it’s definitely not easy. 1. Never mix it fast. 2. Use the right epoxy. 3. If you’re going to do this, go buy a mold that’s reusable. That all being said, I cannot wait to take what I’ve learned and try it again!

Just finishing up the end grain maple cutting board. This was made from that large piece of curly maple I ended up grabbing and posting about. I love the simplicity with just a maple board.

Why do people like end grain so much?
End grain cutting boards or “butcher block” style are usually thicker, 1in to 2in thick. The open grain facing upwards, or end grain let’s your knives slide into the wood easier without damaging your knife or your board. Chefs love these because it keeps their knives sharper longer.
End grain boards do have a tendency to split easier if not oiled well. This is wood after all and wood still expands and contracts.
End grain boards are usually more expensive due to the process of making them and the amount of wood used.
End grain boards actually use double the amount of wood as face grain boards.

This amazingly marbled piece of curly maple is going to be a 1.5” thick end grain cutting board. Normally I like to add different wood for contrast, however this time I wanted to keep things very simple and natural. All maple no extras. I’ll post as it comes along.

Recent build: made a shop cart for a good friend. He told me he didn’t need anything fancy... but then again it is me building it haha. I used gel stain for the first time and I have to say I really like it better than traditional stain. I think the color comes out more even. This was a fun one. Took me awhile to finish it, mainly because I was waiting for caster wheels to come in, but this was awesome. Can’t wait for him to see it!
