Because of a client's understanding and flexibility, I get to take off this Labor Day!

Funny story, I recently messed up my calendar and the client's selected day I was traveling. So, I offered a client a session today. His response: "No, let's find another day. No one wants to work on a holiday, especially not one celebrating our labor."

Touché, Mr. Client, touché.

My client moved into a new townhome, and this closet is literally the only storage space for 2.5 floors.

There's no linen closet, no laundry storage, nothing! I mean, seriously, what builder thought this was a good design?!

Anyway, she was asking this space to do TOO MUCH, so we had our work cut out for us. Here's what we did:

1) We created space in a bedroom closet to store extra towels and bed linens—that category, GONE

2) We moved housewares, e.g., batteries, candles, extension cords, to a nearby buffet that had a couple of underutilized drawers—that category, GONE

3) We simplified what's actually being stored in this space. It's now cleaning, overstock kitchen and bath products, laundry supplies, and medicine

From absolute chaos to functional storage!

What do you think about this before/after?!?!?

NEW BLOG POST: https://theorganizingboss.com/back-to-school-organizing/

Back-to-school season is here. And yes, it's exciting, but it can also be anxiety-inducing with new routines, new schedules, new chaos everywhere.

Here's what I've learned from working with families for years: the ones who survive back-to-school calmly aren't the naturally organized ones. They're the ones with SYSTEMS.

These 5 back-to-school organizing tips are game-changers for your family's year. Kitchen drawer for lunch stuff. Paper processing system. Shared calendar. Supply station. Organized entryway.

Simple systems. Real life. Actually maintainable.

The most common organizing mistake? Creating a system that’s too complicated!

You set up the “perfect” organizing system with multiple steps, labels, zones—but it takes too much time or you can’t remember the process, so you abandon it entirely.

That’s not a personal failure. That’s a system design problem.

The best organizing systems are simple. If it takes more than 30 seconds to put something away, it’s too difficult to maintain. Simplify it.

Your organizing should feel effortless, not like a chore. When your system is easy to use, it actually sticks!

This week we lost one of the best humans who has ever lived: Dolly Parton.

She was truly someone who loved EVERYONE, and someone who was loved by EVERYONE. She was a treasure.

In her honor, here's one of my favorite Dolly quotes; it's something I've thought about many times over the past 6 years. If I hadn't been brave enough to start my own business in 2020, I would still likely be working in a job I hate, tired of the daily monotony that is office life.

I am so thankful for where I'm at, both professional and personally.

Thank you, Dolly, for inspiring so many people around the world! You will be truly missed.

Jessalyn showing us some client love!

I know I sound like a broken record, but this is exactly why we do what we do. We get to help people, and we get to have fun while doing it!

Not everyone can say they love their job, so I am incredibly grateful that I've found something that fulfills me and also helps people live calmer, less stressed lives.

"Working with Blake and his team was an absolute pleasure. We were in the middle of a basement renovation and needed help transitioning our two kids' rooms to better fit their ages and interests (no small task with all the furniture shuffling involved!). Blake was efficient, kind, and made the whole process incredibly easy. Our kids love their "new" rooms!" — Jessalyn K., Arlington, VA

I’ve had a revelation about why people need professional organizers.

The average household has 300,000 items! Let that sink in.

I kept 5 unpacked bins for 2 1/2 years. When I finally opened them, I got rid of 90% of what was inside. I didn’t need those things for more than two years!

We all have too much stuff. And there are good reasons why, but here’s the thing—letting go doesn’t have to be hard.

New blog post dropping August 7. It may just change how you think about your stuff.

When a couple aims to consolidate multiple closets into one, things get real. Fast.

This project was a challenge, because—while the closet is built out well—the space wasn't actually that big and hanging space was limited!

But here's what happened: they went through a HUGE editing process, donated several bags of clothes, and made intentional decisions about what actually serves them. That's the hard part but also the most rewarding.

Now? Each has their own dedicated space. No more digging. No more guessing. They walk in, and they know exactly where everything is.

Two organizers, eight hours, total transformation. This is what supporting people through change looks like. 🙌

Not everything needs to be organized this week (or this month). Pick ONE space. Tackle it fully. Feel that win. Then move to the next.

Progress over perfection, every time.
