Milestones Across 40 Years
1990s–2000s: Expanding Beyond Hawaii

As Office Pavilion continued to grow, our reach expanded far beyond the islands. Beginning in the 1990s, we supported overseas Department of Defense projects using Herman Miller’s GSA contract, helping furnish projects throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

That work continued to grow over time, and obtaining our own GSA contract significantly expanded our ability to support federal projects directly.

This opened the door to a broader range of work across Hawai‘i and throughout the Pacific Rim, including projects in Guam, Japan, Korea, American Samoa, Kwajalein, Singapore, and the Philippines.

Supporting these projects required more than furniture expertise — it demanded coordination, logistics, long-distance collaboration, and the ability to execute across multiple locations and time zones.

This chapter marked an important shift in how far Office Pavilion could reach and the scale of projects we could support.

Healthcare environments need to be designed with change in mind — supporting evolving technology, shifting workflows, and the changing needs of both patients and caregivers over time.

Planning for clinical practice means creating spaces that can adapt while continuing to support comfort, efficiency, and quality care.

What an incredible evening at our 2026 OP Design Challenge — the 40th Anniversary Edition: Past. Present. PAWssible. 🐾

This year’s event brought together Hawaiʻi’s design community, industry partners, and Chaminade University students for a night of creativity, collaboration, friendly competition, and giving back in support of Hawaiʻi Fi-Do Service Dogs.

From imaginative concepts and thoughtful craftsmanship to the energy throughout the showroom, we’re so grateful to everyone who participated, attended, sponsored, judged, volunteered, and voted.

Guests also had the opportunity to meet service dogs in training while enjoying festive event touches including the DIRTT hot dog bar and specialty “PAW-tini” drinks.

Together, we raised over $5,200 for Hawaiʻi Fi-Do and their mission to provide service dogs to those in need within our community.

Congratulations again to this year’s award-winning teams from G70, Ferraro Choi, WCIT, and RAV Productions.

Mahalo to everyone who helped make this event such a meaningful part of OP’s 40th anniversary year.

Milestones Across 40 Years
2008 - Mid-2010s: Strengthening How We Deliver

While our previous chapter focused on leadership and identity, this period reflects how Office Pavilion strengthened operations behind the scenes.

During this time, we focused on improving how projects were planned, coordinated, and delivered.
This included evolving our internal systems to improve coordination across teams — from design and ordering through installation — helping projects stay aligned throughout the process.

We also adopted more advanced ordering and logistics approaches, including Herman Miller’s HMPS system, which improved efficiency by reducing handling and better supporting installation.

In addition, we established our Sand Island warehouse operations, providing long-term stability in how projects are received, staged, and delivered across Hawai‘i.

These changes may not have been highly visible, but they strengthened our ability to deliver projects more efficiently and consistently.

Healthcare spaces need to respond to a wide range of needs — supporting patients, caregivers, families, and staff while helping create a more comfortable and functional care experience.

The Gemma Seating Series, Mora System, and other healthcare solutions from Herman Miller are designed with flexibility, comfort, and intuitive functionality in mind to support evolving healthcare environments.

Yesterday, we had the honor of celebrating our CEO, Wendy Shewalter, as one of four women recognized at the 2026 YWCA Oʻahu LeaderLuncheon.

The afternoon was filled with meaningful conversations about leadership, community, resilience, and the impact women continue to make across Hawaiʻi.

In her remarks, Wendy reflected on her mother, Gerri Hayes, whose courage and leap of faith in purchasing Contract Furnishers of Hawaii (now Office Pavilion) helped lay the foundation for what would become a 40-year woman-owned business legacy. She also shared her belief that leadership is not about titles or control, but about lifting others up and creating opportunities for people to grow.

We are incredibly proud of Wendy and grateful to the YWCA Oʻahu for this recognition and for the work they continue to do to empower women and strengthen our community.

Mahalo to everyone who joined us in celebrating this special day. 💛

Representing the next generation of designers, Chaminade is joining this year’s OP Design Challenge as a student team—participating in the creative process alongside this year’s challengers. They’re bringing a fresh and collaborative perspective, embracing the opportunity to explore new ideas, learn from one another, and create something meaningful to share with the broader design community, all while supporting the mission of Hawaiʻi Fi-Do service dogs.

When asked what dog breed best represents their team, they selected the Poodle for its intelligence, adaptability, and playful energy—qualities that reflect a group eager to learn, take on new challenges, and express their creativity in unique and thoughtful ways.

We’re especially excited to have Chaminade University involved this year. As the only college in Hawaiʻi offering an Interior Design program, they play an important role in shaping the future of our local design community—and we’re proud to create space for their work to be part of this event.
