🐾 Some pieces are made for decoration. Others are made because someone deserves to be remembered.

After recently losing our dog, Paxton, I wanted to create something that felt more personal than a standard memorial marker. Using an actual photo of him, I laser engraved his portrait and name directly into natural stone. The texture and irregular shape of the rock make every engraving completely unique, and seeing his face permanently etched into stone made this one hit a little differently.

That led me to something new for AlmostForgotten23. I’m now offering custom pet memorial stones starting at $40 for smaller stones, with pricing increasing based on the size of the rock and complexity of the engraving. Send me a favorite photo and your pet’s name, and I can turn it into a permanent memorial for a garden, flower bed, gravesite, or special place around your home. ❤️🐾

Because of the size and weight limits of my laser, stones are currently limited to approximately 10 inches or smaller. Shipping is available, with the cost determined by the size and weight of the finished stone.
Paxton was the first. I wish he never had to be. But if making these can help another family keep a little piece of their best friend close, then this is something I’m proud to offer.

🍂 NEW ADDITIONS TO THE FALL COLLECTION 🎃
Fall is getting a little more colorful around here!
I just finished two new pieces for the AlmostForgotten23 Fall Collection, and these are definitely bringing a different personality to the lineup.

🎃 The Layered Patchwork Pumpkin is packed with detail. Multiple laser-cut layers build out the pumpkin, stitching, hearts, patches, leaves and curled vines, then the blue, orange and pink tones bring the whole thing to life. There is a LOT going on in this one, and that's exactly what makes it fun.

🍁 The Layered FALL Display goes in a more classic autumn direction with maple leaves, flowing accents and warm orange, natural wood and cool gray tones. The different layers create real depth instead of everything being printed onto a flat surface.
Both pieces are laser cut, layered, assembled and finished by hand, and both include an integrated wooden easel stand on the back, so there is nothing extra needed to display them. Just set one on a shelf, mantel, entryway table or desk and you're ready for fall.

🌀 13 LAYERS. ONE PIECE. AND THE LONGER YOU LOOK AT IT, THE DEEPER IT SEEMS TO GO.

This is one of those projects where the pictures almost don't do the depth justice.

Another new piece is finished at AlmostForgotten23, and this time I went completely geometric with a handmade 13-layer mandala.

Each of the 13 individual layers is cut from 1/8" wood and stacked together to create the twisting, dimensional pattern you see here. Look at it straight on and your eyes naturally get pulled toward the center. Move to the side and you can actually see all those individual layers creating the depth and shadows.

The combination of turquoise, pink, orange, natural wood tones, and darker stained sections gives every level its own identity while still tying the entire design together.

And I didn't stop with the mandala itself.

The finished piece sits inside a custom reclaimed wood frame, giving the clean geometric design a more rustic Almost Forgotten feel.

🏔️🌲 SOMETIMES THE BEST PART OF A PIECE IS WHAT YOU DON’T SEE STRAIGHT ON…

I’ve been spending a lot more time experimenting with layered wood designs, and these two are some of the newest pieces to come out of the AlmostForgotten23 shop.

Every mountain, tree line, ridge, animal, moon, and foreground started as an individual piece of wood. Layer by layer, they come together to create an actual 3D landscape where the shadows and depth change depending on where you’re standing.

This one is built from 7 individually cut layers of 1/8" wood, creating a mountain scene with pine trees, multiple ridgelines, a full moon, and those warm orange accents that really jump against the darker stains.

🦌 3D LAYERED ELK & MOUNTAIN SCENE

This one takes the layered concept in a completely different direction. A bull elk stands against bright blue water, surrounded by pine trees, orange mountain peaks, and a full moon overhead.

The closer you look, the more layers you start noticing.

What started as sheets of wood and a handful of ideas has turned into a growing collection of handmade pumpkins, layered fall decor, and Halloween pieces. Some are traditional, some have that rustic farmhouse look, and a few definitely lean toward the spooky side. 👻🕷️

23 YEARS. ONE HELL OF A JOURNEY. 🇺🇸

As of midnight, I officially retired from the United States Air Force.

I didn't have a retirement ceremony. No packed room. No pomp and circumstance. No big celebration.

Because that's never really been what matters to me.

What matters is family.

My wife of almost 21 years, who has stood beside me from the very beginning through every high and every low.

My son Gabriel, who has grown into an incredible young man with a bright future ahead of him.

And my daughter Coraline, who is still my little girl and, to me, the most beautiful little girl in the world.

Those three people made the sacrifices with me. They were there when I was gone. They were there when things were difficult. They were there when things were great.

Without them, I wouldn't have made it.

And that's a big part of what AlmostForgotten23 has always meant to me.

It's not just about old furniture.

It's not just about woodworking.

It's not just about laser engraving.

It's about preserving the things that mean something.

The handwritten recipe from Grandma.

The piece of wood from an old family home.

A photograph that has been sitting in a drawer for decades.

A name, a date, a memory, a story.

Things that could easily be forgotten.

That's where the name AlmostForgotten23 comes from.

Because life moves fast.

People grow older.

Families change.

Old things get thrown away.

Memories fade.

And sometimes, all we have left is something small that reminds us where we came from.

I want to help preserve those things.

Retirement doesn't mean I'm slowing down.

If anything, it means I'm finally getting the opportunity to put more time into the things I genuinely enjoy.

Creating.

Building.

Restoring.

Engraving.

And turning things that might have been forgotten into something worth keeping for another generation.

The Air Force was 23 years of my life.

AlmostForgotten23 is the next chapter.

And I can't wait to show you what I've got planned.

What if you could take someone’s handwriting and make it last forever? ❤️

It’s been a minute since I’ve posted. We’ve been busy trying to get everything moved, settled, and back in order, but that hasn’t stopped me from sneaking in a few orders here and there. And trust me, I’ve got A LOT of new stuff coming that I’m really excited to share with you all.

One of the coolest things I’ve added to the shop is a new software program that can take actual handwriting from a photograph and turn it into a laser engraving.

Think about that old handwritten recipe from Grandma. Maybe the paper is torn, stained, faded, or barely holding together anymore. If you have a picture of it, I can restore the handwriting and engrave it onto a cutting board, sign, plaque, or just about any suitable surface.

And it doesn’t have to be a recipe.

A handwritten letter from a parent.
A note from a grandparent.
A child’s handwriting.
A signature from someone who is no longer here.
An old family saying written in their own hand.

The handwriting stays theirs. The memories stay yours.

This is one of those projects that goes beyond simply making something out of wood. It’s about preserving a little piece of someone that you can actually hold onto.

And this is just the beginning. I’ve got some new projects, new techniques, and some things I’ve never offered before coming soon.

So if you’ve got an old handwritten recipe, letter, note, or anything else tucked away in a drawer, don’t throw it away. Take a picture of it and send it my way. You might be surprised what we can turn it into.

Sometimes you don’t realize how much you’ve missed until you finally get a taste of having it back. ❤️

We got back home a few days ago after what feels like one of the longest weeks we’ve had in a while. My little brother came up to help us pack and load our household goods, and that alone made the trip special. I hadn’t seen him in a few years. Getting to reconnect with him and watching him spend time with his niece and nephew reminded me exactly why this next chapter means so much to us.

Then came the 18-hour drive to Tennessee. We pulled in around 3:00 in the morning, got a little sleep, and were back at it the next day unloading the truck. At this point, we’ve managed to move about 60% of our house.

I even squeezed in some construction work with my father-in-law and managed to jack my back up pretty good in the process. Then came another long drive back to Pennsylvania, finally pulling in around 5:00 in the morning. Needless to say, my body decided it was time to shut things down for a few days.

But through all the exhaustion, packing, driving, house showings, uncertainty, and everything else going on, I keep reminding myself what all of this is for.

Family.

For more than 20 years, military life has meant seeing our family when we could. A visit here. A holiday there. A few days together before it was time to leave again. Our kids have grown up with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins being people we love tremendously, but haven't always been able to see nearly as much as we wanted.

That's one of the biggest reasons we're ready to go home.

I'm ready for Thanksgiving dinners where we don't have to travel hundreds of miles to get there. I'm ready for Christmas mornings and Christmas dinners surrounded by family. Weekend cookouts that don't require months of planning. Random Saturday visits. Birthdays. Ball games. Sitting around a fire. Helping each other with projects. Watching our kids spend real, regular time with the people who love them.

The ordinary stuff.

Because after being away for so long, you realize those "ordinary" moments aren't ordinary at all. They're the moments you don't get back.

And now, after almost 23 years, I officially retire in just 12 days. 🇺🇸

That's exciting. It's also a little scary. For most of my adult life, the military has determined where we live and when we move. Now we're getting ready to make those decisions for ourselves.

We're hoping and praying this house sells so we can finish this move, get our family back home to Tennessee, and finally start the life we've talked about for years.

More family. More memories. More time doing the things we love. More time in the shop. And hopefully a little less time wondering when we'll get to see everyone again.

Almost Forgotten may be a little quiet while we navigate all these moving parts, but we're still here.

12 days until retirement. 60% moved. One house left to sell. And one heck of a new chapter waiting for us back home. ❤️🏡🇺🇸

🔮 This one may not be everybody’s cup of tea, but that’s the beauty of custom work. 🔮

I don’t have to share someone’s beliefs to respect them or create something that means something to them. Every custom piece tells somebody’s story, and this one just happens to be for a pretty special customer... my brother.

This spirit board and matching planchette were engraved on spalted maple, roughly 1/2 inch thick, using my WeCreat Official Group Vision 20W laser. I wanted to keep that old-world, Victorian occult feel while packing in as much fine detail as possible. The moons, raven, death’s-head moth, pentacles, cauldron, celestial imagery, and all the tiny linework really came alive against the natural character of the maple.

And that matching planchette might be one of my favorite details. 👁️🌙

I even engraved the AlmostForgotten23 mark on the back because custom pieces like this are exactly what this shop is about. Taking an idea that means something to somebody and turning it into something they can actually hold onto.

Definitely different from some of the pieces you normally see coming out of my shop, but I’m really happy with how this one turned out.

📦 Almost Forgotten is hitting the road for a little bit! 🚚

Things are getting real around here.

We’ve got a house viewing tomorrow, the U-Haul is loaded, some of the cars are packed up, and somehow we STILL have a bunch left to go. 😂

This week, we’re heading down to Tennessee to unload everything and get one big step closer to starting our next chapter. After that, we’ll make the trip back to Pennsylvania and see what happens with the house. 🤞

Because of all the moving, driving, unloading, and probably questioning why we own so much stuff, we’ll be away from the shop for at least a week.

Almost Forgotten isn’t going anywhere. We’re just relocating the chaos. 😂
