Finished this custom Army flag carving for a customer and honestly the flame box elder did most of the talking on this one. The natural red streaking running through the grain almost looks like it was painted into the wood itself, but every color and pattern here came straight from nature.

This piece was CNC carved from solid flame box elder with live edges left intact to preserve the raw character of the slab. The Army seal, raised stars, flowing flag lines, and deep relief details completely changed once the grain started revealing itself during the final sanding and finishing process.

What I love most about projects like this is that no two pieces could ever be duplicated. The spalting, color movement, knots, and live edge details make this a true one-of-one piece.

There’s just something special about combining craftsmanship, patriotism, and natural wood grain into a piece that feels like it already belonged in someone’s home before it was even finished.

Big news from the workshop… 🔥

After countless late nights in the garage, covered in sawdust, stain, and burnt wood from the laser, we officially launched our Etsy shop for AlmostForgotten23.

From reclaimed furniture and rustic decor to CNC carvings, laser engraved pieces, and one-of-a-kind handmade creations, you can now shop securely through our new Etsy store while supporting our small family business directly.

We’ll be adding all currently available pieces over the next several days, including custom work, restored items, wood carvings, engraved glass, slate pieces, and future one-off creations that never make it to local markets.

🌌🪵 “Three simple poses… but somehow this piece says everything without a single word.” 🪵🌌

This free-standing Baby Groot “See No Evil, Speak No Evil, Hear No Evil” piece started with two completely different materials and turned into one of the most unique combinations we’ve made so far.

The galaxy background was precision laser-burned into solid ash wood, then finished with pearl iridescent detail that catches the light like a real night sky. Every angle gives off a different shimmer and depth.

The Groot figures themselves were carved from oak and mounted in front of the space backdrop to create a layered 3D effect that almost makes the whole scene feel alive. Between the wood grain, galaxy texture, and dimensional carving, this piece changes constantly depending on lighting and perspective.

One of my favorite parts about projects like this is blending CNC carving and laser work together into something you really don’t see every day. Rustic craftsmanship mixed with a little imagination.

A rough slab of flame box elder sitting on the CNC table with absolutely no clue to anyone else what it’s about to become.

The pink and red streaking in this wood is unreal in person. Every single board has its own personality, and with flame box elder, no two pieces ever come out the same. That’s what makes projects like this exciting. You’re not just carving wood… you’re uncovering something that was already hiding inside it.

The combination of the raven, skull, roses, and moon backdrop gave this carving a dark rustic look that honestly fits the wood perfectly. Every pass on the CNC pulled more depth and texture out of the grain, especially through the feathers and skull details.

What I like most about pieces like this is that the wood does a lot of the work itself. The natural figuring and movement make every carving come out different, so there will never be another one exactly like it.

This piece includes a matching hardwood display base and is finished to bring out the natural character of the wood without hiding any of the detail.

This handcrafted “Welcome to My Happy Place” wall sign was carved from reclaimed pine, and the natural knots, grain movement, and imperfections are exactly what make it special. Every pass through the CNC revealed more character hidden inside the wood, giving this piece a warm rustic look that feels right at home in a cabin, porch, entryway, workshop, or cozy farmhouse space.

One thing I love about reclaimed wood is that no two boards ever behave the same. The dark knots and grain lines almost frame the carving naturally, making every sign completely one of a kind.

✝️🪵 “Some pieces speak louder through simplicity than anything else.” 🪵✝️

This piece was created by burning a detailed portrait of Jesus directly into natural wood, and the grain underneath gives it a raw, almost weathered appearance that makes every detail stand out even more. The crown of thorns, the shading, the texture in the hair… every line changed depending on how the wood reacted during the burn, which means no two pieces will ever come out exactly alike.

One thing I really love about this one is how the knots, grain lines, and imperfections in the wood became part of the artwork itself instead of being hidden. It gives the piece character and a rustic feel that just can’t be replicated by mass production.

Built thick and solid with a clean freestanding design, this piece works great on a shelf, mantle, desk, entry table, or prayer space. You can feel the craftsmanship and weight the second you pick it up.

Spent some time in the shop creating a new series of laser engraved Father’s Day pieces, and honestly… these brought up some memories from the past to the present .

Every design tells a different story: 🎮 The Gaming Dad running on snacks and “one more level” 🐈 The Cat Dad proudly serving his feline overlord 🎣 The quiet fishing memories between father and child 👢 The Girl Dad standing strong through every chapter 🛠️ The everyday “Dad Life” chaos we all know too well ❤️ And the simple meaning behind Fatherhood itself.

What I love most about projects like these is how a plain piece of wood can suddenly turn into something personal. The grain, the burn detail, the tiny imperfections… no two pieces ever come out exactly the same, which makes each one feel a little more real.

These were laser engraved in-house by AlmostForgotten23 and designed to feel less like store-bought decor and more like something someone actually keeps for years.

There’s something about wildlife carvings that brings a piece to life, and this one might be one of my favorites yet. This handcrafted relief carving captures two fighting rams in the middle of a clash, carved with layered depth and detail that changes depending on the lighting and angle.

From the muscle definition to the rocky terrain underneath them, this piece took patience, precision, and a lot of cleanup work to bring out the movement and texture hidden inside the wood. Pieces like this are why I love CNC carving so much… watching a flat board slowly turn into something that feels alive never gets old.

Mounted on a matching wood stand and finished to let the natural grain speak for itself, this one feels right at home in a cabin, office, man cave, lodge, or anywhere that appreciates wildlife and craftsmanship.

This handcrafted standing cross was carved from natural beech wood and shaped into something far more meaningful than just decor. Measuring 10.5” tall, 7.5” wide, and 3/4” thick, this piece carries beautiful flowing grain patterns that almost seem to move in the sunlight.

One of the most unique parts of this piece is the carved “Jesus” detail flowing down through the center of the cross itself. Depending on the angle and lighting, the carving reveals more depth and character every time you look at it.

No shortcuts, no factory molds… just time, patience, and craftsmanship worked into every cut and contour. The natural warmth of the beech wood gives this piece a clean rustic look that fits perfectly on a mantle, shelf, prayer space, office desk, or entry table.

This Pike relief carving came out absolutely aggressive in the best way possible. The open mouth, sharp detail, and underwater texture make it look like this fish is exploding straight out of the wood mid-strike.

Cut from solid beech wood, this piece has incredible natural grain movement that gives the carving even more depth and character. Between the scales, reeds, rocks, and flowing contours, this one was all about capturing that raw freshwater predator energy.
