🐙🌊 What happens when a piece of live-edge wood meets the depths of the ocean?

This incredible octopus relief carving started as a beautiful piece of natural live-edge wood and was transformed into a detailed underwater scene full of movement, texture, and life.

Carved on our TTC450 CNC using a combination of roughing and fine-detail finishing passes, this piece captures everything from the spiral shell and flowing tentacles to the coral, seashells, and ocean floor details hidden throughout the design. The natural grain of the wood adds another layer of depth that makes the carving seem to change depending on the angle and lighting.

One of my favorite parts of this project is how the live edge and natural character marks in the wood complement the ocean theme. No paint. No filters. Just the beauty of real wood enhanced through careful carving and finishing.

Every project teaches us something new, and seeing this one come to life from a rough board into a dimensional piece of art was incredibly rewarding.

🚂🇺🇸 The Patriot Express is officially complete. 🇺🇸🚂

There’s something powerful about a steam locomotive charging down the tracks with a billowing cloud of stars and stripes behind it. This piece started as a rough slab of live-edge wood and was transformed into a highly detailed relief carving that captures both the strength of America's railroads and the spirit of patriotism.

Carved on my TTC450 CNC using a 1/4" upcut bit for roughing and a 1/8" ball nose for finishing, every detail was carefully machined to bring depth and movement to the scene. The flowing steam cloud incorporates the American flag, creating a unique blend of history, craftsmanship, and national pride.

The natural live edge was preserved to showcase the character of the wood, while teak oil highlights the grain and gives the carving a warm, timeless look. No paint. No shortcuts. Just wood, craftsmanship, and a vision brought to life.

This one has quickly become one of my personal favorites.

We've officially launched our YouTube channel where we'll be sharing Shorts featuring CNC carving, laser engraving, woodworking projects, restorations, and the finished pieces that come out of our shop.

Just a heads up... the channel is brand new, so there isn't a huge library of content yet. We decided to start documenting the journey now rather than wait until we had dozens of videos uploaded. 🚂🇺🇸 One of the coolest projects I've ever brought to life... The Patriot Express.

What started as a simple piece of wood became a scene packed with history, power, and American pride. Using the CNC, I carved a steam locomotive charging forward while the steam cloud transforms into a flowing American flag overhead.

The challenge was creating enough depth and detail to make the train feel like it's coming out of the wood while keeping the stars, stripes, and movement of the flag visible in the "steam." Every pass of the bit revealed a little more of the story hidden inside the board.
Seeing the locomotive emerge from the wood and watching the flag take shape in the steam cloud was one of those moments that reminds me why I love creating.

💡 AlmostForgotten23 Tip of the Day

Not every piece of wood needs to become firewood.

Some of our favorite projects started as rough, overlooked boards that most people would have passed by without a second thought. A knot, crack, live edge, or unusual grain pattern isn't always a flaw. Sometimes it's the feature that makes the finished piece stand out.

Before you toss that old board aside, take a second look. You might be looking at your next favorite project.

🙏 Some pieces are more than wood.

This praying hands relief carving started as a solid block of natural beech wood, but hidden inside was a scene full of faith, depth, and incredible detail. Layer by layer, the CNC revealed flowing clouds, ornate scrollwork, and hands lifted in prayer beneath rays of light breaking through the heavens.

What makes this piece special is how the natural grain becomes part of the artwork itself. In the sunlight, the grain moves through the carving like additional rays of light, giving the piece a warmth that simply can't be replicated with paint or artificial finishes.

Finished with teak oil to highlight the natural beauty of the wood, this carving showcases the depth, texture, and character that only real wood can provide. Every angle reveals something new.

✨ Sometimes the simplest designs tell the strongest story. ✨

This piece started as a beautiful block of natural flame box elder, but the real challenge was letting the wood speak for itself. Instead of covering up the natural grain, spalting, and vibrant red streaks, I carved a recessed cross directly into the center, allowing the character of the wood to become part of the design.

Every cut revealed something different. The grain flows through the cross, the natural markings create depth and movement, and the live-edge top preserves the organic beauty that nature spent years creating. Finished with teak oil to enhance the wood's natural color and figure, this piece highlights craftsmanship and faith in one timeless display.

Whether displayed on a shelf with the included stand or hung on a wall with the installed hardware, this is a piece designed to be appreciated from every angle.
