Well the flurry of work of the past few years is still continuing. No retirement yet for this soon to be 72 year old.
Here are some of the latest just completed this past week. Shown is about a 1/3 of the entire job. The rooms are being lived in and getting good photos may or not happen.

The book shelf wall unit is about 17’ long and 8’ high. It was made in about 8 sections that fit tight like a giant puzzle. It has 3 desk areas where the doors flip down and the upper ones flip up and slide into the cabinets.
At the end under the window is the cover for the metal and ugly HVAC unit. The mid panel is removable do as to access and service the unit.
2 other rooms have similar covers.
I also made 2 wall hung bath vanities.

The woods are white oak and walnut.

Finally got the doors delivered and installed today in the 1890’s brownstone in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

The first 2 pics are the new door replication. The other one is the refinished and modified original.

I’m kind of proud of this one. Hopefully I’ll get some pics of this installed and with its home surroundings.
The back story is I did a bunch of cabinet work (master bathroom and walkin closet) this past summer and fall for a client who owns a beautiful Park Slope Brooklyn brownstone (ca. 1890’s) with all original interior woodwork.
So I was asked to make a duplicate door for the living room that was missing or badly damaged. He also had a hall closet door that a neighbor who owned a similar brownstone gave him, that had a different finish and about 2 1/2” too short.
So after figuring out (with the help of my son) what the original wood was (American Sycamore), I made the duplicate door with traditional mortise and tenon joinery etc. and added the 2 1/2” to the closet door and refinished it to match.
I’ve attached some accompanying pics to show the joinery and the original that I was matching to.

The door on the right is the refinished and lengthened hall closet door.
The door on the left is the new one I made
Thanks for looking.

Some recent work to show for a Park Slope brownstone.
The first is a walk in dressing room in maple.
The others are the vanity and medicine cabinet in the adjacent bathroom. Still waiting on the special order k***s for the vanity. This was in solid white oak with a clear water borne finish.

This weekend’s challenge: replicate some baseboard molding for a 130+ year old Brooklyn brownstone.
There’s a wall in one of the room missing the baseboard. The original wood is a mystery. Age and use are factors.
The replacement is Spanish Cedar which I bleached. I started with an 2” thick x 11”W x 11’ plank. I made about 14’ linear ft. And still have 4’ of the original plank left over.
The original was done in 2 pieces - the 6” flat plunth base and then the 3” multi profile cap molding on top. I had to do it in 5 pieces. Making each individual profiles with separate router bits plus some hand shaping.
This was fun.
The pictures show the original up against the new; the cutaway side profile of the new; and the left over cedar plank.

Another project just completed. This one has special meaning as it was for 2 wonderful old friends. They had direct input into every aspect of the entire kitchen design and choice of materials. A job truly well done for a most beautiful home.

My contribution:
Solid walnut countertop bar - 1 1/4”T x 21”D x 120”L x 66”W.
Walnut Floating Shelves with Brushed Aluminum detailing - 2”T x 12”D -varying Length & Width.

The overall kitchen remodel was expertly done by others.

My humble and minuscule attempt to add some beauty and logic to a truly screwed up world!

My latest project delivered yesterday. It’s solid walnut dining table with a lacquer finish. It measures 40”W x 96”L x 30”H. The top is 1 1/4” Thick.
The table was designed by my good architect friend who I have worked with for many years and many projects. The last photo are the drawings she provided. We went with the Option “B”.
The legs are basically tapered triangles and they splay out in 2 directions requiring compound angles where they are joined.
Certainly one of the more challenging projects I’ve had in a while which also means fun for me.
Here are final pics as well as some taken along the way. And thanks for looking.
