Update… it’s not looking good for our worm riddled sycamore spindle arms. He may end up being a demo spindle. Respects can be paid in booth 420 - no worries, there are plenty more including some new to market patterns and some recent favorites.

Sometimes a little extra love and attention is needed during the creation process. The wood is Sycamore that I got from my dad’s shop, and a good portion of the stash is riddled with worm holes that you don’t see until you start cutting into it. I didn’t see these until I did the rough cut on this set of arms. I could just toss them, or I could take a chance and continue, knowing they will need further superglue sessions as I sand each layer off during shaping. And when it’s done, there’s a high risk that they will not pass the final balance test. No matter. We’re charging forward! Follow along, and I’ll let you know how it turns out. Only for days until we leave for . Hope to see you there!

This is gonna look nice in Wenge! Last day of scrolling. Just a few more of this pattern to wrap the standard Turks, and a couple more large size in Celtic Heart (Bavarian Pretzel??) before I start shaping. Then it’s all about the lathe - shafts, crochet hook set handles, and yarn carousel cores & bases. It’s almost time!!!

When you’ve forgot just how hard Bloodwood really is… then during a 50 min working lunch on WFH day, only one spindle gets cut out before having to return to my desk. But it’s going to be a pretty one!

Posted this last night on insta, but fell asleep before sending to fb. Whoops!

I’ve been playing with new patterns since returning from . I’m calling this one Fall Harvest. Y’all can tell it’s a scarecrow guarding his fall crop, right? I was going to do corn, but that is some tiny detail, and it was way too fragile. So, pumpkins it is! I’ll be making up a batch of them this weekend.

While the Fox is away, he not likely to miss one little bobbin and coaster, will he? Wish I could be with him and my fiber family at ( ), but the next best thing is spending time with my favorite makers’ products. I have my limited edition Falling Leaves bobbin on my Sparrow (just released this morning). There’s coffee in my coffee mug adorned with Daedalus spinning wheel images, which is sitting on a FiberFox Workshop Falling Leaves coaster (also released this morning).

I had the privilege of being able to snag this gorgeous bobbin and coaster right off the printer, but you can get a set for yourself at fiberfoxworkshop.com. Did I mention that Brian made this special Rhinebeck pattern for BOTH the Sparrow and the Martin??

I’ve been entrusted with tendering the print farm and shipping while he’s away, so put me to work! In the meantime, I’m going to ignore my messy desk and spin a bit before heading out to my own shop to work on a new spindle pattern for fall. There will be new spindles coming soon!

!! Bad Language Alert !!

⭐️ New Pattern #2 & #3
⭐️ Shop update tomorrow Oct 5 at 3 PM central

We’re using my picture for the cover photo on the announcement for these next two patterns. If you don’t like sweary words, specifically the one that starts with F, don’t swipe. These two patterns aren’t for you. However, if that word is part of your vocabulary, swipe away, and read on about these patterns.

The first one has a story behind it. It’s called COD w/ Dad. There’s a group I zoom with weekly. They’re my chosen family. During zoom time, one of my chosen sister’s husband sometimes uses that time to play Call of Duty with his 80 year old dad. Long story short, when the youngsters cheat in order to get the drop on their opponents, the language gets colorful. He’s also learned to spin these past couple years, so I chose two of the most common exclamations heard on the zoom to memorialize on a spindle and made that for his Christmas present. Each phrase is meant to be viewed on the right hand side of the big arm, so the one on the left will appear reversed… until it does a 180.

The second pattern is a classic rendition of an incendiary device that goes boom and has an F on the side. Yep, it’s an Fbomb.

Warning - These patterns may not be appropriate for SAW (Spinning At Work), but they’re absolutely perfect for spin-ins, meet-ups, or an evening spin after a stressful day at work when you just need to let it fly.

So, how do you like to de-stress after work? Do you let the expletives fly, or is a nice cuppa and some soothing music more to your liking. There are no wrong answers.
