I consider it a blessing that everyday I get to lead students and teachers as a VP at and also tap into my second love of gardening as a Master Gardener.

We've decided to use recess as a restorative time for students to avoid getting into trouble by digging their hands into dirty.

Today we cleared the beds in preparation for a Fall garden. We will be planting garlic πŸ§„, carrots πŸ₯•spinach and some kale.

Well y'all, if we are just being real my garden this summer was a bust lol.

The perennial flowers were poppin and so we're my cherry tomatoes but dasssss about it. And that's ok. This is a very busy season in my life so I've learned to do what I can and not beat myself up about the things I can't get done.

Also the bugs and pests were treacherous this year!!!!

Next weekend I'll be pulling the last of the tomato plants out and getting ready for my favorite GARDENING season...FALL! Give me all of the carrots, lettuce and kale baby!!

I'll be posting a video making a delicious tomato jam to use up the 5,034 tomatoes I have as well πŸ˜‚

PEST PROTECTION

So last year I had major pest issues. I'm talking deer eating my leaves, squirrels eating our tomatoes, and aphids eating my greens. Here's how I'm fighting them organically:

* Leafy greens will get covered with these popup picnic shields from Amazon.
* All berries will get draped in tulle. I used painters sticks to give the pot some height and air circulation.
* All tomatoes will get covered with organza sheer bags once they form.

If these methods don't work this year, I'm throwing in the towel *cries dramatically* 😀😀😭😭😭

How do you handle pests in your yard?

Incredibly invasive but oh so yummy MINT! If mint isnt grown and contained in a pot, it will take over your land and your LIFE! 🀣

Our mint collection is expanding and here's the line up this year:
-Mojito
-Pineapple
-Chocolate
-Apple
-Strawberry
I have no clue what to do with all of it but I'm looking forward to the harvest.

Do you grow mint? How do you use it??

I had the awesome opportunity to show up for my girl as Master Gardener aka Mommy and help her class start their summer garden. We talked about the role of bees through pollination and planted peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, kale, cabbage, and sunflower 🌻 seeds.

Thank you Whittier Elementary School for having me. We had a blast!!

These raised bed planters are perfect for those wanting to start a small garden and are limited in space. I exclusively use them for leafy greens due to the lid offering another layer of buggie πŸ›πŸ¦  protection.
I simply filled it with old potting soil and amended it with worm castings, mushroom compost, and Biotone fertilizer.

I popped in some lettuce seedlings and made sure to plant them in a shady area. Why? Because now that the temperatures are increasing here in that warm weather will lead to them bolting before we're ready to harvest.

Lettuce πŸ₯¬ and peas are my FAVORITE Spring vegetables to grow. What are yours?
