I've stayed in more hotels than I can count in my life. Spent the night in cities of millions and small towns with less than 100 people. Never have I had a view so beautiful out my hotel window than this one. This is a very special place with some very special people.

Living out on the edge of the country does have its perks. Ran into a rafter of about 20 turkeys in a neighbor's yard this afternoon. I almost hit two of the larger toms as they tried to cross the road. It's been a good 48 hrs for nature in the Upstate.

Another beauty came into my possession this week courtesy of and the auction. This is a well-crafted grasshopper-style coachmaker's marking gauge. This particular one appears to be handmade with the layout lines still present around the mortises. I knew I just had to have it after my failed attempt at making my own coachmaker's marking gauge last year. Happy Friday y'all.

Got to spend yesterday morning doing two of my favorite things. Swinging a hammer and working on a build site. I love seeing the almost-finished home in the background and a home that was just finishing out the roof sheathing in the foreground.

First "new tool" acquisition for the new year. I stumbled across the beauty of a Stanley No. 25 bevel gauge on Friday afternoon. This particular bevel gauge is a Type 1, circa 1866 to 1876, wrapped in rosewood and brass. This is before Stanley applied for its bevel gauge patent so it lacks any markings except for the 10 on the base, indicating this 10 inches overall. A previous owners mark, F. KOCH, can be seen in the gorgeous rosewood. Have a great everyone.

After putting this bench in it's fifth shop in as many years, I figured it was time to reflatten the top. Luckily it wasn't out of flat very much and only had a few big hollows in it. The No. 4 1/2 and the No. 8 really made quick work of it. There are still character marks aka chisel marks I left in places to remember past projects. Can't wait to get back to projects again soon.
