It's all finished! It's definitely not without it's mistakes but for my first time making anything with drawers and doors I'm incredibly happy with it. This will go into my own kitchen to use as extra storage and nobody but me (and maybe my cats) will ever notice the small blemishes and imperfections.

It's been far too long since I got into the shop. In the past year I went from trying to open a restaurant, then helping to opening a different restaurant, then moving, then starting at a completely different restaurant. But now that life seems to have settled down I finally have the time again. Hallelujah.

Since moving into a new home, my girlfriend and I realized that between the two of us we have a ton of kitchen gadgets and not enough storage. This gave me the perfect excuse to get back into the shop.

This will be the solution to our storage issues. It's not completed yet but I'm in the home stretch. We've got a 6' x 3' x 2' storage console made of mostly plywood but it'll will have a solid maple top with a matching set of mid century modern inspired maple legs. Hopefully I'll have completed pics soon, but all that's left is the two side doors with wicker paneling and the top. Keep an eye out!

I met a couple of people wearing shirts today and jokingly asked if they'd be able to get me a good deal on a 12" sliding dual-bevel miter saw. To my surprise, they said yes. So here's the new miter saw. It's a behemoth and I love it.

Well, here it is! It's not without it's flaws, but I don't mind at all. It was a super fun build to do and it really challenged me in ways that I had not been before. The 2nd picture shows it's elder telecaster sibling of 15 years (along with a banjo I don't know how to play.)

The finish is, umm, finished and all the small parts and electronics are in my shop. Hopefully I'll have a functional bass guitar in the next day or two!

I spent a large part of my 20s working in guitar shops and repairing guitars and in 2008 made a telecaster with help from a friend's dad. It has a walnut body with cream pearloid accents and is one of my most treasured possessions, but I always thought it needed a bass counterpart. Since I now have a full wood shop I decided to take the plunge and get it started. Here's the beginning. It'll be a jazz bass style 4 string with all the same cream pearloid accents to match it's telecaster sibling. Of course, as long as nothing catastrophic happens during the production. Stay tuned for more progress pics.

This post had been a long time coming. I started this project last February and had no idea it was going to be another 9 months until it was completed, but here it is: I made a COUCH!! It's not without it's mistakes but it was an incredible learning opportunity. Huge thanks to Liza for making the cushions happen. They're wonderful and as much as I love them I think Ethel loves them even more. All solid hardwood with black walnut and maple.

Another commission done for and ! These tap handles will be for batched draft cocktails at one of their locations but I'm not quite sure which one. In any case, I'm quite familiar with all of their spirits and I'm honored to make the handles that'll dispense their incredible booze. Thanks for the opportunity!

I made something for myself! My small yet heavy record collection was about to take down the floating shelves on my wall, so I figured it was time to remedy the situation. Black walnut veneered plywood and solid black walnut base with birch plywood backing. Cat approved!

This was super cool, very sentimental commission for me. Good friends of mine had their house devastated by a burst water pipe last winter and lost nearly everything. They came to me about building a new dining room table but they had no design specifications in mind, just something that could fit 8 people and durable enough for their kids to do homework on without marring the finish. Projects like this are a little bit scary sometimes. What if I design something they hate? Luckily they both seemed to love it and it fit beautifully into their newly rehabbed home. Solid 8/4 red oak top with Missouri black walnut legs/stretchers. Thanks a ton, Stephanie and Jesse!

This was a really cool challenge. A local salon commissioned a table for their clients to use to do when while waiting on their hair treatments done. There was this drywalled box in front of the window that made having a window facing table a bit if a hurdle but we got past it. I used existing themes within the salon like the color of their existing shelving and their use of black iron piping on other tables. Here's the result! 12'x 4' stained pine top with 1" steel tubing painted matte black with 3 power outlets. Thanks for the commission!!
