A quick lesson in "Crank" - crank is simply defined as the angular difference between the bowl and the handle of a spoon. I'm not sure if that's a technical definition of not, but amongst spoon folk, that's what it's called. This is important to have in a spoon because it allows the spoon to function correctly. If a spoon had zero crank angle, and you scooped something up, it was fall out of the bowl when you try to pick it up. That's why it's important.
Image 2 shows how the crank can be integrated when chopping out your spoon blank. I refer to this type of crank as a compound crank. Again, not sure if there's another term for this specific way of integrating crank, but I've never seen anyone else do it this specific way. Regardless, image 2 shows how I install my cranks in 90% of my Spoons. Its an easy but pivotal part of the spoon that is often overlooked by beginner carvers.
