For over twenty years now, I have been creating Pique Assiette mosaics and teaching others the craft. This venture is something that I never anticipated, however, the events of September 11, 2001 inadvertently changed the course of my life. After 18 years of working in the travel industry, by the end of that fateful month, I suddenly found myself without a job. As the saying goes, when one door cl

oses, another opens. Little did I know at the time where my journey would lead me. My younger son, Matthew, had been telling me for a while that he wanted to be homeschooled. We had many close friends and family members in the large homeschool community, so I was familiar with the concept, but never thought it was something that my family would do. Because I was no longer working and after much prayer, we decided to give it a try and the rest is history. Greek history to be exact. Matt and I were studying the ancient Greeks, when we came upon a unit on mosaics. We bought a stepping stone kit at Michael’s, which we worked on together, and I have never stopped! I fell in love with mosaics. A few months later we joined a large homeschool co-op where I volunteered to teach mosaics. Not only did I find that I loved working with children, but I discovered that they loved doing mosaics as well. I worked with close to a hundred kids over the years at the co-op and I will always remember that time to be so richly rewarding. I enjoyed it so much so, that even when Matt left to attend Baptist High School, I stayed on for a few more years working with my beloved students. To this day, we still have close friends and attend weddings and baby showers for the “kids” from the group. Matt went on to graduate with a computer science degree from Rowan University and now works in the IT field. Today, I work and sell my mosaics in Medford at the Medford Company Store, where I also specialize in chalk painted furniture. I do many types of mosaic and painting classes and parties at the store. I also work with seniors at assisted living facilities and disabled adults as art therapy. My life is so busy now and my business is expanding all of the time, but for someone who was born with the need to create, I feel so blessed that God has not only allowed me to discover my passion, but has given me the opportunity to share it with others as well because I have met so many wonderful people along the way! Yes, another mermaid. This is a new pattern though. I’m in the middle of doing another one for my place at the shore and then I’m done. My mermaid obsession has begun to fade.

This is a commissioned piece that was shared on my other page, but I didn’t show the before and after and I wanted to highlight the difference painting the grout makes. She’s getting some jewelry and then going to her new home at the shore. 😊

Hi Friends! Quick update as to where I’ve been for the past year. I had CMC Arthroplasty (removal of trapezium bone) on my right hand in February and then my left hand in October. The recovery is long and intense and mosaics have been pretty much on the back burner. Here are two surfboards that I started before the surgeries and was finally able to finish this week. Feeling so motivated now to make up for lost time!😊

I am pleased to announce a two-part workshop in Medford at the Company Store, taking place on Saturday, February 22 from 12-3 and Sunday, February 23 from 12-2. This comprehensive class will provide you with the essential tools and techniques necessary to create mosaics independently. The cost is $65 and includes all materials to complete a frame. Let me know if you’d be interested.😊

Forgot to add a picture of my last mermaid. She now resides in Florida and the person who commissioned her named her Wendy. They really could have chosen a better name than that!😂
