Throw back Thursday to the year 2020 when we had meetings in the very hot summer days outside with a mask on! This beauty was one of those. We almost died doing this project- but we made it through thankfully!

This client is one of my favorite humans. I have been working with him for over 18 years on different parts of his home every few years. He’s a director of some pretty famous movies and he loves drama in his home so it has made his projects very fun to work on. We had many talks over the years about closing up his entry way and redoing the front of his house. He finally let us do it! Come take a look.

In the entry we closed in the porch to add a beautiful entrance inside of the home instead of a porch that was never used. We smoothed the exterior stucco and even painted the roof tiles a charcoal color. We designed custom metal doors and all of the wood work thoughout the entry. Behind the moldings in the entry are secret storage compartments for things like dog leashes, keys, etc. We even disguised the garage door to look as though it’s not there by continuing the wall moldings. Our favorite part is the custom built in bench which gives you a place to put your shoes on and has a pullout dog cushion so their little fur babies can have a cushiony place to put their leashes on.

My client loves glamour so we went with this black marble border on the floor and glossy gray marble tiles inside. The chandeliers and matching sconces are from Visual Comfort. All of the luxury feels for this client!

Before and after throw back Thursdays starts now!

This client has a beautiful custom Santa Barbara style home with lots of unique character. They wanted to update their primary bath so we took out the built-in tub, and added a freestanding tub in its place to open up the area. We added a new limestone floor that we had cut into 4” x 24” strips and laid it in a chevron pattern. A custom stained glass artist made the “skylights” which aren’t really skylights, there are lights behind the glass that illuminate the glass. We took out the heavy walls on the sides of the tub and added floating shelves to open up the space and brought decor to the space. The area was transformed into a beautifully open space to relax in and enjoy the views.

East meets West continues in this jewel box powder room. We wanted to make this room special with rich finishes and details that compliment the beautiful art and rug that the clients brought back from over seas.

We started out designing this space with custom wood wainscoting and had a mirror installed in one of the panels. The lights were installed in the mirror to brighten up the space with the reflection while giving it a warm feeling with the brass finish. We designed a custom integrated marble sink and hand picked the best marble for the space.

The powder room needed a little more shine and texture so we chose wall paper that has a gold foil within the paper that gives the walls a sheen and ties in with the brass accents. It was the finishing touches that brought this jewel box powder room to life.

When East meets West. For these clients, we used inspiration from their authentic Asian pieces which they had collected from places such as Thailand, the Philippines and Singapore. The clients wanted us to marry their traditional Eastern furniture and accessories with the Southern California style home where they currently reside.

Our intention was to integrate the beauty and richness of their pieces with the contemporary simplicity typically seen in SoCal design. The leathered quartzite countertops have a unique green veining that brings texture and depth to the kitchen while keeping the light look that the clients wanted. The island had to be larger than usual (12’!) to fit the wide kitchen space and open concept family room. Extra wide custom swivel barstools were added to fit the island. We used a rich, dark stain for the island and hood finish, which adds warmth to the area and compliments the artifacts that they have collected.

The gray/ green tile was laid straight to keep the Asian influence and we added open shelving to display her pieces. The lighting finishes the space like jewelry and adds shine with the antique mirror finish.

We accomplished the marrying of East and West to make the space unique and beautiful for these clients.

Celebrating Small Business Saturday with some photos of a project we just completed through my company Valencia Interior Design.

We are feeling very grateful for all the wonderful clients we have had over the past year. We wouldn’t be where we are today without their trust in me and my company.

This past year was one of our best years both in terms of projects and growth. Due to the pandemic, VID learned new services like how to design a space completely virtually with 3-D imaging without stepping foot in the space.

We are very thankful for the chance to grow as a company in 2021 and looking forward to more amazing projects to come in 2022.
