**URGENT: UCSB INTERNATIONAL STUDENT FROM GAMBIA FACING LIFE IMPRISONMENT DUE TO OUTSPOKEN SUPPORT FOR THE LGBTQ COMMUNITY ON SOCIAL MEDIA:
Alagie Jemma is an international student studying Global Studies at UCSB that greatly needs your support. Currently, he is experiencing persecution from his home country, the Republic of the Gambia in West Africa, due to his outspoken support for the LGBTQ community, most recently via Facebook. His presidential scholarship from the government of his home country has been revoked, and he is facing insurmountable debt for his tuition, unstable housing and food sources, and alienation from family and friends, all leading to daily stress and anxiety in his life. Alagie has also been told by the government of the Republic of The Gambia that if he ever returns he will be sentenced to life in prison.
Please support Alagie so that he may continue to attend UCSB as he seeks asylum during this difficult time. He remains hopeful and is endlessly grateful for the support and love he has found at UCSB. Even though he is experiencing such harsh treatment, he remains steadfast in his beliefs that LGBTQ people deserve equality, equity, love and respect in this world. He is a brave soul and a true inspiration.
