What is it? Inspired by and in collaboration with the Orange Coast College Narrative Illustration Program, we are a community of art students, art professionals and art enthusiasts who are committed to the practice of costumed figure drawing. We gather once a month at Al Nomura Photography Studio with one or two professional figure models who dress up in a dramatic/theatrical theme for us to draw
from (hence our name, "Figure Drawma Nights"). Since we do not provide horses to sit on, just chairs, you may bring a small travel easel if you would like to draw/paint upright. Chairs are available as well as cushions if you would like to sit on the floor. You may bring your own cushion if you wish to make yourself comfortable. You may sketch, paint, etc - however if you paint, please prepare and bring your own drop cloth and materials to clean up. Our studio floors and walls are white (since we are a photography studio) and keeping our space clean is top priority. Though not required, we encourage guests to have fun with our 'drawma' themes and arrive in costume. A small prize is awarded for the evenings best dressed and as an added bonus, the winner helps choose the theme for the next figure drawma event. This is a non-instructed event and all skill levels are welcome. We give RSVP priority to students from Orange Coast College and then we open it up to the public. Admission is $10 for students with an OCC ID
$15 for all others. We ask that guests bring a small potluck sweet or savory item to share with our group - but no alcohol please. Water is always provided by the studio. Figure Drawma Events are held in the Al Nomura Photography Studio - we ask that you respect our space by not stepping on our white cove wall (it is curved and tempting to step on, just don't, it would be a huge bummer if you cracked it).
