PROMETHEANS

PROMETHEANS Functional Art The Titan Prometheus stole fire from the gods and gave it to humans - a rebellious act that enabled progress and civilization.

It is in this spirit that PROMETHEANS, too, rebel against a larger order; defying contemporary artistic norms to choose material and components for their latent aesthetic qualities and overt artistic value to create distinctively creative yet utilitarian objects d’art. PROMETHEANS blurs the traditionally established lines between tools, hardware and ornamentation and realigns the relationship betw

een the form and function. The goal is to recycle material in a manner that their covert beauty comes to life under PROMETHEANS design philosophy and craftsmanship. Consistent with the chic industrial style, the PROMETHEANS approach stands opposed to the homogeneous design culture. Its dynamic approach allows for the creation and evolution of a new dimension in design and style.

Reimagining San Pablo Avenue, Oakland:
San Pablo Ave in Oakland is a historical neighborhood featuring a mix of industrial buildings, an open space, an abandoned church, and a grocery store. The area, also known as Ghostown, is slated for urban renewal projects that need more consideration for the area’s context. A proposed housing project does not align with the area’s historical character or community needs. A social architectural adaptive reuse project is envisioned to revitalize the historic character of San Pablo Ave and transform the neighborhood. The project aims to involve the community in shaping a vibrant future and will include spaces for workshops, art studios, music studios, and more. The project will be privately funded for five years to work toward sustainability and emphasizes sensitivity to the area’s historic nature, community consideration, and environmental respect.

Stickney Farmstead:

Background: Stickney House was constructed in 1856 in Bull Valley, Illinois. The Stickney family was known for their strong commitment to Spiritualism. This belief influenced the design of their prominent home on Cherry Valley Road, which featured no square corners to prevent spirits from becoming trapped.

The Living with the Land initiative envisions Stickney House and Farmstead as more than just a historical site. It aims to transform it into a vibrant hub for community activities and education. By providing new opportunities to engage with the area’s natural resources, the site will align with Bull Valley’s principles of conservation and stewardship, making it an attractive investment for potential investors.

As a location for outdoor recreation, the Stickney Farmstead and Cherry Valley trail will link up with the existing and planned trails outlined in the McHenry County 2030 Comprehensive Plan, contributing to the regional land use plan. Through the introduction of new commercial activities, Stickney House and Farmstead will evolve into a self-sustaining hub for ecotourism and environmental education, fostering a deeper connection between life and the land.

The long-term vision for Stickney House is to restore the structure in a way that truly honors its historical and aesthetic significance. This restoration will not only preserve the house’s unique history but also create a space that is in harmony with its surroundings, enhancing the overall appeal of the site.

Balboa Park Botanical Building in San Diego is one of my favorite buildings of all time, inspired me to create this illustration. Can’t wait to see it after the restoration this year.

The Botanical Building presents some of the Park’s vibrant seasonal flower displays. Built for the 1915-16 Panama Exposition, along with the adjacent Lily Pond and Lagoon, the historic building is one of the largest lath structures in the world.  The Botanical Building plantings include more than 2,100 permanent plants, featuring fascinating collections of cycads, ferns, orchids, other tropical plants, and palms.
