Design aesthetics for digital spaces doesn’t have to be all cold cyberspace and/or neo-noir punk sensibilities. My design principles (the principles that guide all of Kiwi Online Marketing!) are all based old school classics - the art waves of the 60s and 70s, the physical movement and presence of vintage fabrics and philosophies tended to by classic couture design.

The fashion history classes I took when gaining my bachelor’s combined with the uncontrollable urge to buy pretty fashion books every time they are marked down at the Half-Priced Books has made me an absolute fashion snob, but also gives me sources of endless inspiration. Nostalgic AND new: one of the websites featured on my recently updated portfolio is both of these things, as it’s a brand new design but based on the embroidery kit Etsy business I ran with my sister a few years ago.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson once said in an interview that when he started acting in movies, his goal was to have a career ‘like Will Smith, but bigger and better’. That’s the ambition I’m bringing to my new era of Kiwi Online Marketing except instead of aiming for Will Smith levels, I’m looking to have a bigger and better year than I personally did last year. I got engaged last year, though, so that’s actually maybe kinda Will Smith levels anyway. It was a good year!

I am seriously a little obsessed with professional wrestler’s career trajectories though and tracking their personal brand marketing outside the ring. Stone Cold Steve Austin is by far the best to follow on Instagram nowadays with his kitty cat updates - no surprise, I know, because it’s Stone Cold, come on. But Dwayne has everyone beat with just sheer saturation and recognizability. Talk about marketing goalssss.

Did you forget how cute my branding is while I was gone from your Instagram feed? Never again, my friend. I’m ~lowkey~ back.

Now you must endure seeing it so much that it becomes impressed upon your mind, forever entwined with the concept of ‘easy DIY website’ (that’s a spoiler for what my new focus is!
