I will be offering tutoring using the Barton Reading and Spelling System this June, July, and August. If you know anyone of any age with dyslexia that needs to grow their skills in reading and spelling, please share this with them. For a successful tutoring time, the program requires 2 hours per week. Ideally, broken into 2 sessions.
Transportation would need to be provided to a location in Russia, OH.

Truth!

Yesterday we shared what 80% looks like and used Wuthering Heights as an example. Well, just to hammer the point home, here is another example via George Orwell’s 1984. Goals should never be set to anything lower than 95% at a minimum. If we are not working towards real mastery, then we are not serving the child’s needs. Period.

Behavior is communication.

Let’s say it again.

Behavior is communication.

Children do not misbehave for the sake of misbehaving. They are trying hard to communicate unmet needs.

Happy 2024! I've been quiet on here, but for great reasons! Thankful for my little family that keeps me hopping, a new kitchen with a functioning sink, and a job that fills my sweetness cup.

I've also been learning so much along with my first student in the Barton program. God blessed me with an easy going, hard working, quick learner (almost as quick as his wit) for my first. He no doubt is bummed to see me roll up his driveway shortly after getting off the bus, but he's ready to go by the time I make it to the door. There's something about little boys with an ornery grin.

If you know of anyone suspecting their child may have dyslexia or has questions, please send them my way. I'm happy to point them in the right direction and help where I can.

We are aware of some comments on a recent post highlighting some grammatical errors. Whilst we accept the public would expect our posts to be accurate we will not be editing or correcting the post.

The officer that published the post PC 2705 is a dedicated officer and valued member of our Neighbourhood Policing Team, who strives to serve his community and make Cumbria safe. Prior to joining Cumbria Police he served his country with pride in the Armed Forces and since joining our team has worked tirelessly to support veterans and cadet groups. His grandfather also served as a Police Constable in what was then Cumberland and Westmorland Constabulary so he is proud to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps.

PC 2705 is also dyslexic, so writing these posts does not come naturally to him but he is keen to do so to highlight the excellent work he does on a daily basis to serve his community. The reason we will not be editing this post as we believe it highlights those with hidden disabilities who have to work hard on a daily basis to cope with them. We hope that PC 2705’s achievements serve as an inspiration to others and encourage them to follow their dreams 😊

Lyndon has come a long way since first picking up the dulcimer in February. He did not have the coordination to use his two hands in this way. He has always loved music but refuses to sing or dance. Seeing his connection to music come out his fingers is really exciting! He’s also picking out tunes on our new piano.

He will be going back to school in the fall as we think he’s ready to try again. He’s matured so much in this time at home. We are weighing out whether or not he’ll do 5th grade band. We have always said that our kids will do band through junior high, but the extra study time while his peers are in band could really lighten our evening load. He will continue his dulcimer lessons and horse riding. Please share your thoughts as this is a tough decision!
