Handcrafted Natural Edge Culinary Boards

Embracing the beauty in the natural edges, varieties of color and ir

regularities in the wood grain is what makes our cutting boards so unique and ultimately produces dynamic and artful surfaces for food preparation and presentation. To craft our boards, we use a variety of local, ethically harvested hard wood from naturally fallen, storm damaged or dead standing trees. The wood is air dried until stable, and then each piece is individually shaped with careful consideration given to form and function. They are then meticulously sanded, working through a nine step process to achieve a superfine smoothness. Our culinary boards are finished simply with food grade walnut oil and natural bee’s wax, making each one a true functional work of art that looks just as beautiful displayed on a wall or when used as a serving surface for a culinary feast. All work features the craftsmanship of Todd Young, a local resident, cabinet maker, musician and wood artisan.

It may be cold outside, but things are heating up for Living Edge Designs.🔥 LED is pleased to announce we have acquired the Honey Locust trees that were taken down from in front of the Beekman Arms Hotel in Rhinebeck.

Unfortunately, they were causing a hazardous situation with their roots growing through the old sidewalk and were cut as part of a larger renovation in the front yard of the Beek.

The logs were first prepped for milling by removing all the staples that were used to attach posters and signage over the years. There were also Christmas lights that were attached to the trunks- the tree had grown around some of these lights and were encased in the logs.

We have milled several thicknesses, some for cutting and charcuterie boards, and thicker pieces that will be made into benches and small tables. After air drying for 6 months and finishing in a kiln, we will have the first boards available by late June/early July. The bench material will take longer to dry because of the thickness. Please note that this wood has a good rot resistance and is suitable for indoor or outdoor use.

We are happy to offer this upcoming collection of handmade pieces and preserve Rhinebeck history.
