The 2026 P.U.S.H. Inc. Leadership Scholarship is officially open!
Deadline is July 16th.

Created to support driven upperclassmen students across Alabama, this scholarship recognizes students who demonstrate leadership, resilience, academic excellence, and a commitment to creating positive change in their communities.

Inspired by the journey of P.U.S.H. Inc. Ambassador Deonna, a pre-med student at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, this scholarship was established to help students overcome the financial challenges that often arise after freshman year while continuing to pursue their goals with purpose and determination.

💰 Scholarship Award: $500.00

📚 Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants must:
✔️ Be a rising college sophomore, junior, or senior
✔️ Attend an accredited college or university in Alabama
✔️ Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
✔️ Demonstrate financial need
✔️ Show commitment to leadership, personal growth, and community impact
✔️ All majors are welcome to apply!

It is with great honor and purpose that we announce the launch of the Samuel Risby Memorial Scholarship, established to celebrate the life, perseverance, and educational aspirations of Samuel Risby.

This scholarship is dedicated to supporting community college students who are determined to continue their educational journey at a four-year college or university despite financial, personal, or life challenges. Inspired by Mr. Risby’s pursuit of an Engineering degree and his unwavering commitment to personal growth, this scholarship seeks to invest in students who demonstrate resilience, ambition, leadership, and academic dedication.

Giving honor where it is due. Our founder received the Unsung Heroes Award for the work he does in the community.

⭐️ Unsung Heroes Spotlight ⭐️

We were honored to kickoff our Black History Month “Unsung Heroes” series by recognizing Nikeland Nichols during this week’s City Council meeting.

Nikeland’s life of service is both deep and far-reaching. A philanthropist, educator, community leader, and advocate for youth and families, his work spans education, mental health, faith-based leadership, and community transformation.

From serving as HSE Fatherhood Coordinator for the Mobile County Health Department, to leading youth programs at the University of Mobile and the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama, Nikeland has dedicated his career to equipping young people academically, spiritually, and emotionally. He is also the founder of P.U.S.H. Inc. (Persevering Under Severe Hindrance), an organization empowering youth to become purpose-driven leaders, and he continues to serve locally as Executive Pastor and Community Liaison at Destiny Vision Christian Center right here in Prichard.

His impact extends nationally through curriculum development, nonprofit leadership, and collaborations with civic, cultural, and faith leaders, yet his heart remains rooted in this community.

Thank you, Nikeland Nichols, for your lasting legacy and for continuing to shape Prichard’s past, present, and future.

PUBLIC NOTICE:

The City of Prichard is opening a Cold Weather Warming Shelter to keep residents safe during extreme cold.

Location:
Ronald K. Davis Safe House
2805 Whistler Street, Prichard, AL 36610

The shelter will be open January 15 thru 19 starting at 5:00 p.m., and will close the following mornings at 8:00 a.m. Men, women, and children in need of warm shelter are welcome. Please note that a limited number of shelter beds will be available for women and children only. No identification is required, and transportation assistance may be available for those who need help getting to a shelter. No pets are allowed.

If you need transportation, please contact the Prichard Police Department’s non-emergency line at (251) 452-2211, or call 911 in an emergency. Please share this information to help keep our community safe. For more details, contact our Office of Civic & Cultural Affairs at 251-609-2061.
