Portland, PA

Portland, PA Official page of the Borough of Portland. Comments are turned off as we do not have staff to monitor. Portland is a small town rich in local history.

Located on the very northern tip of Northampton County, Pennsylvania it has one of only a very few pedestrian bridges across the Delaware River and is a popular spot for Canoeists and Kayakers exiting the river. Portland was founded early in the 19th century and was incorporated in 1876. It's home to approximately 520 people (as of the 2010 census) and Portland's downtown is home to a volunteer fi

re department, a noteworthy Classic American furniture company, a pet store, a flag store, a candy store, a tobacco store, a black powder hunting store, and an antique store. A gas station and a bank located downtown also serve the borough. A large percentage of the borough's homes were constructed in the late 1800's or early 1900's with a variety of historic Victorian era style houses scattered throughout the borough. There is a park-and-walk lot located central to downtown for those who would like to visit the borough and venture out onto the pedestrian bridge. It's well worth the time to take in the spectacular view of the Delaware Water Gap which is only a few miles up the river from Portland.
