Modtique Boutique

Modtique Boutique Modified antiques for the modern family. A portion of the proceeds from every item sold will be donated to juvenile diabetes.

Modtique Boutique is a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania business that was born from our love of antiques and our desire to merge it with today’s modern world. At Modtique Boutique our mission is to breathe new life into the forgotten by repurposing, or up-cycling, a variety of vintage items into new and imaginative pieces of useful art. We strive to provide quality in all of the items we up-cycle whether

we are
modernizing antiques or reinventing discarded pieces in unique ways. Merging functionality with style, we hope you find our items to be one of a kind and that you fall in love with them just as we have. Our goal will be to sponsor a child to go to camp through the American Diabetes Association. This is an organization very dear to our hearts.

✨ NEW FROM MODTIQUE BOUTIQUE — TORCH LIGHTS ✨

These aren’t your ordinary lamps… they’re one-of-a-kind vintage-inspired torch lights with a serious industrial soul. 🔥

We paired the character and patina of reclaimed metal with beautiful walnut bases, creating a look that blends old-world industrial style with a little modern sophistication.

And because we believe a great transformation should be made to last, we took an extra step with the metal. 🛠️

The original aged metal was carefully preserved and finished with an automotive-grade top coat to help protect the surface and prevent continued oxidation. That means you can enjoy all that gorgeous vintage character without the metal continuing to deteriorate.

💡 And yes… they light up! Those warm Edison-style bulbs bring out the texture, patina, and character of every piece beautifully.

Each torch light is unique, with its own marks, variations, and history. No two will ever be exactly alike—and that's exactly what we love about upcycling.

Vintage character. Walnut warmth. Industrial attitude. Modern function.

Another piece of the past given a whole new purpose. ❤️

✨ A Fresh New Look at Canonsburg Collective! ✨

We’ve been busy giving our space at Canonsburg Collective a little refresh, and we’re so excited to share it with you! 🤎

We wanted the space to feel more like Modtique Boutique — a mix of timeless pieces, vintage character, and furniture that has been given a whole new life.

One of our newest additions is this beautifully refinished Century Furniture accent table. We took a classic piece with gorgeous traditional lines and gave it a fresh, updated look with a rich Early American stained top, a beautiful green finish, and rubbed bronze powder-coated hardware. The original casters were kept to preserve some of the character and charm of the piece.

We love how it fits into the updated space — proof that vintage and antique pieces can blend beautifully with today's decorating styles. ✨

And, of course, the Century table isn't the only treasure waiting for you! We've added and rearranged pieces throughout our space, creating a collection full of furniture, décor, and unique finds that you won't see anywhere else.

If you haven't visited us at Canonsburg Collective, now is a great time to stop in and take a look!

🔨 Not every project goes exactly as planned... and that's okay.

One of the things we love most about furniture restoration is uncovering the story each piece has to tell. Sometimes, though, those stories come with a few unexpected surprises.

As we continued working on this commissioned maple dresser set, we discovered a large crack in the bottom panel, along with evidence of old water and moisture damage that had weakened the wood over time. It wasn't visible at first, but once everything was disassembled, the damage became impossible to ignore.

At Modtique Boutique, we believe in doing things the right way—not the easy way.

Instead of covering it up and hoping for the best, we repaired the damage by using high-strength wood glue and wood biscuits to reinforce the joint, then carefully clamped everything together to restore its strength and stability. The goal isn't just to make a piece beautiful again—it's to ensure it's built to last for years to come.

These are the moments you don't always see in a finished furniture makeover, but they're some of the most important. Every unexpected challenge is another opportunity to preserve a quality piece of furniture the right way.

Now that the repair is complete, it's time to move forward with the transformation. Stay tuned—we're excited to share the finished result!

✨ A big milestone on this commissioned transformation! ✨

One of the most exciting parts of a custom commission is bringing our client's vision to life.

After stripping everything back to the beautiful solid maple, it was time to choose the perfect finish. Our client wanted a color with no red or orange undertones and a finish that would let the natural beauty of the wood shine through without being overly glossy.

We experimented with several off-the-shelf stains and even created a few custom blends before finding the one. In the end, Briarsmoke was the perfect choice, bringing out the incredible maple grain while giving it the soft, neutral tone she envisioned.

To protect all of that hard work, we finished it with satin Polycrylic, providing a durable finish with a subtle sheen that lets the wood—not the shine—be the star.

Seeing the stain hit the freshly sanded maple after all those hours of teamwork and elbow grease makes every minute worthwhile. We're one step closer to revealing this incredible commissioned transformation, and we can't wait to share the finished piece!

Stay tuned... the best is yet to come. 🤎

✨ The Journey Begins... ✨

Every beautiful transformation starts with seeing the potential where others see imperfections.

This vintage Broyhill accent table has certainly seen years of love. With water marks, surface wear, and a finish that's ready for a refresh, it's the perfect candidate for a Modtique Boutique makeover. Beneath the worn finish is a quality-built piece with timeless curves, elegant Queen Anne legs, and craftsmanship that's worth preserving.

Now comes the fun part—bringing this classic back to life with a fresh new look while honoring its character and history.

Stay tuned to watch this thrifted treasure transform from before to beautiful!

Our next thrift store find!!

🪵 The History of Broyhill Furniture 🪵

Founded in 1926 by James Edgar Broyhill in Lenoir, North Carolina, Broyhill Furniture began as a small family-owned business in the heart of what would become America's furniture capital. With a commitment to quality craftsmanship, practical design, and affordability, the company steadily earned the trust of families across the country.

Following World War II, Broyhill experienced tremendous growth as demand for home furnishings surged. Throughout the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, the company became one of the largest and most recognizable furniture manufacturers in the United States. Their collections reflected the changing tastes of American homes, offering everything from Colonial and Traditional styles to French Provincial, Early American, Contemporary, and Mid-Century Modern designs.

Broyhill's reputation was built on producing furniture that combined lasting quality with timeless style. Skilled craftsmen used hardwoods, veneers, durable joinery, and meticulous finishing techniques to create pieces designed to be enjoyed for generations. Rather than chasing short-lived trends, Broyhill focused on furniture that balanced beauty, function, and durability.

For decades, owning Broyhill furniture was considered a mark of quality in American homes. Many of those original pieces are still in use today, a testament to the company's craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Although the original Broyhill Furniture Company ceased operations in 2018, the name continues to represent an era when furniture was built to last. Today, vintage Broyhill pieces remain highly sought after by collectors, interior designers, and furniture artisans who appreciate the history, quality, and enduring craftsmanship behind the brand.

✨ Meet Everett 🌲

Every piece we restore has a story, and sometimes... they earn a name along the way.

This charming Pennsylvania House drop-leaf table quickly became known around the workshop as "Everett." With its rich, evergreen-inspired legs, the name just seemed to fit.

Everett has been thoughtfully refinished to blend timeless craftsmanship with a fresh, modern look:
🌿 Sherwin-Williams Jasper brings the graceful Queen Anne legs to life with a deep evergreen hue that's both sophisticated and inviting.
🤎 The solid wood top was carefully stained in Kona, highlighting the beautiful natural grain while adding warmth and depth to the piece.

Built by Pennsylvania House, this table was crafted during an era when furniture was made to last for generations. From its versatile drop-leaf design to its elegant three-legged silhouette, Everett is ready to begin a brand-new chapter in a new home.

Whether you're looking for an accent table, an entryway statement piece, or a conversation starter for your living room, Everett is proof that quality craftsmanship never goes out of style.

❤️ Which is your favorite detail—the rich Kona-stained top or those beautiful Jasper green legs?
