Picture and sound samples of Models O21-AS (Oak finish with adjustable snare); B21-AS (Birch finish w/ adjustable snare), and B21-AS4 (Birch finish, adjustable snare, 4" sound hole instead of standard 6"). All recordings were made using a Shure SM57 mic onto analog tape and then converted to MP3. Eq was all set at flat response and no compression or effects were applied.

I spent some time playing some of the cajon's sold at the "center" box stores. 1/8" plywood for front and back and 3/8" tops and sides - compared to our cajons, made from 3/4" tops, bottoms, and sides, 1/2" backs, and 1/4" fronts (tapa). The difference in tone has to be heard. Theirs sound thin and hollow compared to the bass response on our cajons, yet our models will give you all the snare "pop" you want from the top end.
