Gratz_Pilates Gratz Pilates is the original manufacturer of Pilates apparatus and the industry’s established source for authentic equipment.

Gratz is the industry’s established source for authentic equipment. Our New York City, now Philadelphia, fabrication shop has been in business since 1929, crafting not only Joseph Pilates’ unique design, but also museum-quality furniture, architectural metal, ad sculpture for many of the world’s greatest designers. Over a half century ago, our company’s patriarch Frank Gratz applied his engineering and metalwork expertise while working with Joseph Pilates. Frank’s son Donald continued this commitment to preserving the integrity of their apparatus and in the late 1960’s collaborated with Romana Kryzanowska as she carried on the Pilates legacy. Thanks to these relationships, Gratz has maintained a fidelity to Pilates’ original vision by fabricating apparatus with unerring craftsmanship and exacting specifications. While Gratz is now located in Philadelphia, our equipment can be found in studios worldwide. Teachers and students know the Gratz difference and consider our apparatus an indispensable part of their practice and we are proud to carry on the tradition and serve the Pilates community. You can count on Gratz to protect Joseph Pilates’ vision by respecting the details of every item we produce. Our commitment to Pilates guides our actions. We have provided the finest equipment for a generation of teachers, and now we welcome the opportunity to address your individual needs. Whether you are a first-time customer or a long-time devotee, we are available to answer your questions and share our knowledge and experience. The Customer Service department is ready to help you achieve your goals by offering personal assistance on all orders, and our designers and engineers can provide complimentary studio layouts and customize your concepts into reality.

Gratz-Equipped Studio Tour: ⛰️ Two Hundred Ten

📍Seoul, South Korea

Swipe through to learn the story behind 🥰 Wonyoung Lee and Jonghwi Park, a couple who came together to open a Classical Pilates studio and build a shared practice rooted in their passion for the work. 🙌

Studio upholstery color: ➡️ Graphite

Wonyoung Lee and Jonghwi Park opened their studio, in South Korea, with the goal to help people build a body not for show, but for living fully. 💪

With Jonghwi coming from an architectural design background and Wonyoung having worked at her parents’ cafe by the 🌊 sea, their different perspectives helped shape the studio space and their intentional approach to the practice.

Wonyoung ✅ earned her training certificate from Romana’s Pilates International and Jonghwi is currently enrolled in Romana’s Pilates Instructor Training. ☺️

🙌 How did you start your studio?

“I lived with pain in my body for many years.

Hoping to find some relief, I tried many different forms of movement and exercise — rehabilitation exercises, kickboxing, boxing, jiu-jitsu, yoga, weight training, modern Pilates, and more.

Exercise helped reduce some of the pain, but it never completely went away. Eventually, I started thinking, “Maybe this is just the amount of pain everyone lives with.”

Then I found Romana’s Pilates, and I began to experience significant changes in my body. The pain I had lived with for so long gradually started to disappear. I found myself able to do movements I had once thought were impossible for me, and I began to discover a kind of strength in my body that I had never felt before.”

⭐️ What’s your favorite piece of equipment?

“Definitely the Wunda Chair!

It’s amazing for building strength, but I also love how much stretching and length you can find with it. What fascinates me most is how such a small, limited space can offer so many different movements and challenges.

There is always something new to challenge your body with on the Wunda Chair, so if I could take only one piece of equipment to a deserted island, that would be my choice!”

Swipe right to read each caption and discover why Junghwa, Romana’s Pilates International certified instructor, started her journey in Classical Pilates and opened her studio.

Studio upholstery colors: 🤍 Bone and 🖤 Black

What started as a curiosity about movement for Junghwa, turned into a yearning to deeply understand how movement 💪 and the body interact, adapt, and move with intention.

Junghwa earned her training certificate from ✅ Romana’s Pilates International and soon after was certain she wanted to share her knowledge with others leading her to studio ownership.

⭐️ What’s your favorite piece of equipment?

“The Reformer is my favorite. I especially love the sound of the springs and the carriage moving. In a quiet studio, there are moments when that sound becomes one with the rhythm of the body, and I find that incredibly beautiful.”

🧠 What’s a piece of advice you always come back to?

“Immerse yourself. Bring your mind into one place, go deeply into your body, and allow yourself to move freely. I believe Pilates is not simply about performing movements, but about truly feeling and experiencing your own body.”

👥 Tell us about your clientele.

“Most of my clients have been practicing with me for many years. Some have been with me for four years, while others have been practicing with me for nearly ten years. What I value most is that we share the journey beyond simply exercising—we witness changes in the body together and continue to grow through the practice.”

✅ How did you start your studio?

“My studio began with a small curiosity about movement. I started learning Pilates with a simple question: Where does movement begin in the body, and how can it flow freely? Wanting to understand movement more deeply, I studied in the Romana’s Pilates system and had the opportunity to learn from many teachers through my own body and experience. Over time, I became certain that I wanted to share what I had learned with others. Then I found the right space, and that gave me the opportunity to create a space of my own. That was the beginning of my studio.”

We’re grateful to ha
