***Top Three Lessons Learned in 2025***
(besides elections having consequences, but that’s another post…)

👥 Community Engagement is a Must-Have
Listening, connecting, and meeting your audience where they are is no longer optional. There are simply too many things competing for people’s attention these days for them to come to you.

👾 We’re Not in the Matrix Yet, So Be Human
With so much AI-generated slop in the communications ecosystem, how can you stand out? By being human. Brands and organizations that share captivating stories will succeed. Those who can’t will fail.

®️ Don’t Try to Be Something You’re Not
Your personal, corporate, or organizational brand can and should be unique to you. More than new logos or slick marketing campaigns, authenticity still wins the day. Be true to you.

Genuine community engagement means transparent, two-way relationships with the people who matter most to your organization.

Honored to have worked with the City of Pensacola, Mayor D.C. Reeves, and the amazing folks on the design team to bring this fantastic project to life. Here's to construction kicking off in 2026!

So glad to be part of this effort to improve and reconnect this massive stretch of public space under I-110 in downtown Pensacola.

An entire community - hundreds of homes, businesses, churches, and organizations- were displaced when that highway came through...not unlike many other (largely African-American) communities.

We're proud to be part of a great team of experts who are helping to reconnect these communities and create a place that works for everyone.

A little history....

The .gov means it’s official. Federal government websites often end in .gov or .mil. Before sharing sensitive information, make sure you’re on a federal government site.

With all the talk about national politics, it's important to remember how important your local elections can be. Here are a few reasons to be engaged in your local community, not just be a keyboard warrior for Kamala or Trump:

⏱ Local issues can have a much more significant and timely impact on your everyday life.

🐌 Advocating for local policy changes or ordinances is typically much easier than trying to get a law through Congress or your State Legislature.

↩ Local government tends to be more nimble. If a policy isn't working, it's easier to change course for a city or community than an entire state or nation.

💙 ❤️ 💜 BONUS: You'll find more in common with other people than you think. When liberals and conservatives can both agree that a waterway in their town should be protected, or that youth sports programs should be supported, that's a good thing!

There's a fine line between talking *with* your audience and talking *at* them.

One works. The other doesn't. Know the difference.

The thrill of victory. The agony of defeat.
The power of taking a swim in the Seine River.
(Huh?)

That's what Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo did to prove that the famed waterway was clean enough for Olympic triathletes to safely train and compete. It was a bold statement and a textbook example of how to "show, don't just tell" what you want your audience to know.

In a time when talk can sometimes be cheap, actions still speak volumes. Check out more communications lessons from the Olympics here: https://bit.ly/3LKCNiH
