Tennen Studio was founded by Ethan Wessel and Sarah Swartz Wessel in 2001. The studio has evolved from an architectural design firm to an interdisciplinary firm that designs buildings, landscapes, spaces, furniture, and objects. The culture and design sensibilities of Japan - honesty of materials, minimalism, care, connection to nature and the changing seasons- are guiding principles for the work

of Tennen Studio. We pursue simplicity in our design work, both as an economy of gesture, as well as a removal of the non-essential. We believe this leads to timelessness and provides for a heightened awareness of the senses. We push new ideas and technologies, while embracing the things that time cannot change – natural light, change of seasons, and the inherent sensual qualities of materials. In our work process, the distinction between designing and making is blurred. The reality of crafting and building inspires the design process, and design inspires the making.
