Hello my friends! I’ve been teasing this piece for a while, and so excited to get to share with you now🤗 This antique buffet has been in my family for DECADES and had many years of wear and tear (see later slides). A true refurbishment with a pop of color and less red tones was the desired outcome, so I got right to work on removing the old finish using detail sanding sheets and sanding sponges. I was glad to find that the veneer underneath was quite lovely and in good enough condition to stain! I used Oil-based Gel Stain in Dark Walnut for the table top which added rich, warm tones, accentuating the wood grain and adding enough depth without making the piece feel to dark.
I varnished the table-top with Oil-based Polyurethane in Gloss (brush-on.) I thought I’d try something new (new to me) on the legs and detailed areas of the buffet: ‘s Interior Oil-based Stain SPRAY in Dark Walnut. I then varnished these areas with Interior Oil-based Spray Polyurethane in Satin.
For the painted areas, I primmed with brush-on paint primer in white and then used American Accents Spray Paint in Satin Lagoon. The painted areas with Interior Water-based Polyurethane in Satin (brush-on).
I know refurbishing antiques can cause some hoopla, so it’s a good thing I OWN this piece and had creative control😅 Through numerous moves and addresses, collecting water marks, burns and scratches, this antique holds history, and I hope she stays in the family for another four generations. By then maybe she’ll be ready for another change! 🩵
