Community Garden Oxford, IA The mission of the Community Garden is to build relationships in our community, and provide healthy food to people in need. I couldn't do this without you!

The Oxford Community Garden began with a calling to help the people in our community that are food unstable. The garden is a place for anyone who needs healthy food to come and take whatever they can use. You do not need permission to come and take food. The only thing I ask is that while you are there, you also pull a weed or two. The garden is made possible by donations of time, materials, and f

unding from members of our community. The Community Garden was approved by the City of Oxford in 2014, and is located on the East side of Creekside Park (next to the Butterfly Garden). We built our beds, with the help of around 100 CCE students, by layering cardboard or newspaper, leaves, compost, dry grass clippings, hay & fertilizer. I am looking for volunteers to help with any aspect of the gardening project! If you have materials that you would like to contribute, or would like to donate your time to this project I would love to have you contact me. The mission of the garden is: to teach people of all ages how to garden, to build relationships in our community, and to provide healthy food to people in need. Thank you to everyone who has committed themselves to this project; whether it's been through donations, knowledge, or time.

As you may have heard in the media, today is Red Nose Day. The focus of Red Nose Day is to bring awareness to childhood poverty. A good cause, no doubt. They have chosen to use comedy to fight hunger around the world. I'm happy to see people coming together for a good cause, but I have a hard time laughing about kids not knowing where their next meal will come from. If you don't want to support an organization that pays it's top 15 employees over $2 million per year in salaries and compensations (not to mention the cost of all of that air time on TV), and want to help children in your own community instead of the money going elsewhere, consider what YOU can do to help. There are always local churches that support the hungry in your own community. Talk to your school's guidance counselor about the needs in your school. If your community doesn't have a community garden, pray about how God can use you to help get one started. All of the money that is donated to the Oxford Community Garden goes directly into helping people in our community that are food insecure. Take some time today to educate yourself about the needs in your community and pray about how you can become a part of the solution!

Tomatoes are turning red, there are a few cucumbers ready, broccoli is ready (again), green peppers are almost big enough to pick. The squash will be ready when it is yellow. And the watermelon is ready when the vine dries up (which will still be a while). Please help spread the word!
