Saturday’s Local Author Book Signing was a beautiful celebration of Ocala’s literary spirit. More than 100 guests joined us for an afternoon of conversation, connection, and creativity.

We were honored to host J.E. Leak, Cynthia Van Heyde, Dave Schlenker, Carlton Reese, Franz Beard, Buddy Martin, and Michael P. Koontz, whose work continues to enrich our community.

Our gratitude to Ocala Gazette, Ocala’s Good Life, and The Ocalan for attending and documenting the day.

Sometimes it starts on a quiet hillside, overlooking a still lake framed by granddaddy oaks. Sometimes it begins with a story, a memory, or even the colors in someone’s closet.

In her latest feature, designer Kay Rains shares how meaningful conversations — about daily rituals, beloved pets, cherished places, and the way people truly live — become the spark that shapes a home. From a single picture window capturing a breathtaking view to the small details that make a space feel personal, design is ultimately about understanding.

Publisher and chief writer for The Ocalan, Carlton will present The Golden Season a book about the University of Florida’s latest National Title. He edited and co-wrote this book with authors Franz Beard and Buddy Martin – both nationally recognized and respected sports writers.

Buddy Martin is a veteran Florida sports journalist and media entrepreneur whose work blends decades of sports writing with modern digital media, making him a central figure in Gators and SEC sports coverage.

Carlton & Buddy will be in the house on Saturday, June 6 from 4–6 PM sharing their work and to personally sign copies of their book.
