Did some rearranging in our dining room this weekend and thought I’d share with you all. It’s a bit eclectic, still working on replacing MCM decor with cottage style. But it’s working for us right now.
We were very fortunate to inherit this gorgeous hand made dining table from the prior owners of the house.
We got the chairs from a restaurant that was going through a renovation. Some paint and new cushions fabric gave them a new lease on life. The huge mirror was also left behind in the house and reflects the light coming from the kitchen.
The paint color was a bold choice but we love it! And it compliments the pale yellow living room.

My dream finally came true - the new kitchen! We’ve changed out all the counter tops - copper laminate and butcher block. Removing some of the cabinets improved the flow and brought much needed light into this space. (See last 2 photos for before)

Taking advantage of the floor to ceiling windows in this space, we’ve created a separation from sleeping are to make a library. Who wouldn’t want to curl up in the oversized recliner with a book and the views of the natures beauty!

First harvest from our garden! Yes we (and by “we” I mean mostly my husband .fueye ) started late this season because of traveling work schedules, but it has finally come to fruition. I’ve never tasted cucumber this sweet in my life! (View of the forest, aka our back yard, from our kitchen window.)

Kitchen back wall transformation is complete! We took out the world’s biggest microwave that we do not use and that was covering 2/3 of the cooktop, as well as the very depressing upper cabinets. Due to the awful state of the wall, we covered it in bead board and painted it the same as the rest of the kitchen (buttery cream). Adding couple of vintage shelves to display my collection of vintage tins, which house my ever growing collection of teas and coffees, and retro glasses completed the look!

Our gold fish pond and surroundings are taking shape. Buying the right combination of aquatic plants created a self contained ecosystem, which means no maintenance is required. Our three goldfish are thriving and growing, but are a little camera shy. 🤓 The bird house in the background that looks like a mushroom is now occupied with a very busy mama bird and soon to come babies.

View from our bedroom just before sunset into the annex library. These bifold doors were in the dining room of our house when we bought it, but they served no purpose there and couldn’t be appreciated because we always had them open. Once we decided to separate our master bedroom to create a library/reading room, we used them as a permanent divider. Combined with floor to ceiling windows along the back wall it creates a stunning effect.

After months of searching, I finally found a mate for my favorite mint green chair. Facebook Marketplace strikes again! It’s stripy companion is about a decade older but they fit in so nicely together. The lamp is “new” as well, but desperately needs a more period appropriate shade. The current dilema is - Which foot stool to use????

And finally the living room is complete! From light sucking grey to warm creamy yellow this north facing room has come alive!

Finally got to redo one of the kitchen cabinets. Took the top doors off and painted inside this gorgeous turquoise color. And the walls below the chair rail will get a color change soon. Now that it’s no longer a big brown box I can display my collection of bakeware! Every time I walk into the kitchen it makes me smile! As said “it looks so happy”.
