In short: UMS is a company that wants to provide Co-making and private studios equipped with tools and machinery to enable professionals and amateurs to ‘create’. But what does that really mean? Let’s break it down:

We're working on some renders of what Urban Maker Space will look like.

With a coffee-shop/community area in the front, the co-making space in the back, the private studios along the side and a room in the back for the heavier machinery to reduce noise disruption and increase safety for all members.

It's still a draft, but it might give you a better idea of what we're striving for.

UMS NYC, or Urban Maker Space New York City, is a collaborative workspace for hobbyists and professionals to pursue their passion of ‘making’.

We offer private studios - to fully equipped, shared workspaces. For the first half of this article, I’ll outline what my idea is and why I want to pursue this. The second half I’ll talk more about the business model behind it and how it will work. I’ve been refining and contemplating on the Maker Space concept for the last four months, and I’m proud to be able to share it with you in more detail today.
