Once upon a time it was white, and before that it was black. At 84, my darling friend Zoe finally broke down and got herself a GoChair. After she was denied for her hip surgery because of her heart issues. It’s been a real struggle for her to come to terms with the idea of being in a wheelchair. Her independence is so so so important to her. So Charlie and I came up with an idea. We have transformed this table to be the perfect craft space for her and her new wheels. I took off the front and added a much smaller side, trim, so she could easily roll her chair right underneath it, it’s got new slide her feet so even if she bumps it, it won’t fall over it’ll just move out of the way. I did a texture paint job in a custom purple so even if she rams into it you won’t be able to tell, and of course, three layers of sealer to protect all of our hand-painted artwork as well as prevent chips and scraps since this is a craft table after all. (sorry for the run-on sentence) It was a total surprise, Charlie and I had such a good time making it! Deco ya labor of love. Zoe has three cats and two dogs, and at any given time one of them is sleeping on top of a sewing machine, so Charlie painted a cat sleeping on top of a sewing machine and it’s probably my favorite detail to the whole table. she was definitely surprised, she cried we cried, but she loves it, and I couldn’t be more grateful to have her in our lives. It was just a little some thing we could do to make this new transition for her a little bit easier, and hopefully a little bit more joyous.
