This morning’s shot demonstrates that old and second hand can be 1) fresh and charming as heck. 2)Cost effective. 3) Good for the environment by keeping useful things out of overflowing landfills. I found the dining room table at the Habitat for Humanity Restore of Bergen County and refinished the top and painted the base. The vintage chairs were a lovely donation from a friend who was getting rid of them. I loved the rich old patina so didn’t do a thing to them. The settee comes from the Habitat Restore in Randolph, NJ. I had always meant to sew a slipcover but became attached to the sweet flower market fabric, despite the torn arms that you can’t see. The tables on either side are from the Habitat Dutchess Restore in Poughkeepsie, as are the quirky giant green lamp, vintage pitcher and two clocks. I sewed the cafe curtains from an old tablecloth I purchased at American Thrift in Passaic, NJ. If I had to add it all up, this vignette cost me maybe $120. What do you think?
